According to a VNA reporter in Cairo, on September 17, the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities announced that a 3,000-year-old gold bracelet had disappeared from the restoration laboratory of the Egyptian Museum in Cairo.
The bracelet, which features a gold band decorated with spherical lapis lazuli beads, dates back to the time of Amenemope, a pharaoh of the 21st Dynasty of Egypt (1070-945 BC).
In a statement issued late on September 16, the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities did not specify when the bracelet was last seen. Egyptian media reported that the bracelet was discovered missing during an inventory, although this information has not been confirmed.
An internal investigation has been launched, and antiquities management units across Egypt's airports, seaports and land border crossings across the country have been alerted.
The incident was not announced immediately to avoid affecting the investigation process, while an inventory of all artifacts in the laboratory is being carried out.
