Many entries have... touched the judges' hearts

Many 10th grade literature exams in Ho Chi Minh City achieved high scores from 8.5 to 9.5 points. As the examiners jokingly said: the exam touched the students' hearts, and the candidates' essays touched the examiners' hearts.

According to the judges, this year’s literature exam scores of candidates above 8 are quite good. In each batch of papers (usually 24 papers), on average there are about 3 papers with scores of 8 or above, accounting for more than 10%.

The reason why the candidates got such high scores is because their papers were very complete, neat, clear, easy to read, no questions were left out, and all the questions thoroughly addressed the requirements. To get a high score, most of the papers must score nearly full points in the reading comprehension section (3 points). No points were lost in the expression section and there must be points for creativity (usually 0.25 points in both social and literary argumentative questions).

Most importantly, because the theme of this year's exam focuses on "heartbeats" and thinking about a lifestyle of dedication "not just for oneself", it requires the candidates' emotions, commitment and genuine feelings. Thanks to that, the good-scoring essays have... touched the judges' hearts.

Wrong basic knowledge of literature

In the reading comprehension section (3 points), all four questions a, b, c, d were wrong. Question a is a recognition question, candidates only need to stick to the words at the beginning of the text to be able to answer correctly. However, many candidates wrote extra words, so they lost points.

In question b, according to the answer, the isolated component is "ancillary component: the sacred sea and island areas of the Fatherland". Due to not having a solid grasp of Vietnamese, many candidates answered "phu chu" or "phu tru" so they did not get any points.

For question c (understanding what soldiers in Truong Sa archipelago), candidates need to answer 4 ideas in the keywords: "young age", "love of sea and islands", "strong, brave", "overcoming hardships and challenges to protect the sovereignty of the homeland's sea and islands". If candidates only stick to the words of the 4 verses, they will only be correct with idea 1 (0.25/1 point).

Question d seems easy if you read the question, candidates only need to state the action but in fact it is not easy to get points. Because the action here must be practical, specific (0.25 points), not general (like picking up trash, environment...) or repeating the idea of ​​the text. In addition, candidates are required to convincingly explain the reason for choosing that action (0.5 points) and express it well (0.25 points).

Social argumentative essay (3 points), with the requirement of "thinking about the advice to think with your heart", means "promoting the power of evaluating and perceiving things around you with emotions, by going into the depth of the inner world, not stopping at reason, accuracy and science ".

However, many candidates went off topic, due to not understanding the topic, and discussed other issues (such as human love in general). In these cases, the judges only gave points for structure (0.5 points) and expression (0.25 points).

Topic 2 of the literature essay (4 points) requires analyzing poems or verses in the curriculum or outside the textbook. Many candidates choose to analyze a story text. And this error is only graded on structure and expression like the social essay question above.

Teachers commented that the 10th grade literature exam score of 8 will increase.

In addition, there are some papers with sloppy handwriting that are very difficult to read. Many examiners recommend that the marking system should have criteria for deducting points for handwriting (difficult and illegible, attitude when writing) to both guide candidates for the next exams and encourage candidates to consciously practice handwriting.
