Hot: Hanoi announces admission scores for 10th grade public schools

On the evening of July 4, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training announced the benchmark scores for entering grade 10 of more than 100 non-specialized public high schools.

Specific 10th grade entrance scores for each school are as follows:

According to the standard score table, Yen Hoa High School has a standard score of 25 points (average score of 8.3), Phan Dinh Phung High School has 25.25 points (average score of 8.4), Kim Lien High School has 25.50 points (average score of 8.5);

Le Quy Don High School - Ha Dong 25.50 points (average score is 8.5), Thang Long High School 24.25 (average score is 8.08);

Viet Duc High School 25.25 points (average score is 8.4), Tran Phu - Hoan Kiem High School 23.75 (average score is 7.9)...

Benchmark scores of some schools increased slightly

Looking back at the benchmark scores of the top schools in Hanoi in the past three years, the average score per subject/benchmark is above 8 - 8.5. Specifically, Phan Dinh Phung High School in the past three years had an average score per subject of the benchmark score of 8.4, 8.55 and 8.35 points respectively. Tran Phu - Hoan Kiem High School had an average score of 8.05, 8.35 and 7.9 points.

Viet Duc High School scored 8.35 points, 8.6 points and 8.25 points; Thang Long High School scored 8.3 points, 8.2 points and 8.45 points. Kim Lien High School scored 8.25 points, 8.65 points and 8.35 points. Cau Giay High School scored 8.05 points, 8.3 points and 8.0 points. Yen Hoa High School scored 8.45 points, 8.45 points and 8.5 points.

How to calculate new admission scores

According to regulations, the way to calculate the admission score for non-specialized grade 10 in the 2025-2026 school year is different from previous years. Specifically, the admission score is the total score of 3 exam subjects (coefficient 1) plus priority and incentive points (if any). While last year there were also 3 exam subjects, the scores for literature and math were multiplied by coefficient 2 and the foreign language score was multiplied by coefficient 1.

According to Hanoi admissions experts, this change in the way scores are calculated is the factor that has caused the benchmark scores to increase slightly in the top schools in the inner city. The reason is that the percentage of good scores in English of students in the inner city is usually high, while this year all three subjects are calculated with a coefficient of 1.

This is also the first year that the exam scores and admission scores for grade 10 in Hanoi were announced by the Hanoi Department of Education and Training at the same time.

According to some high school principals, schools also do not receive early exam score data to build expected benchmark scores like before, but the Hanoi Department of Education and Training has software to calculate expected benchmark scores for schools.

On the morning of July 4, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training met with more than 100 high school principals to finalize the benchmark scores. The benchmark scores were implemented in turn for specialized high schools, followed by non-specialized high schools with high annual benchmark scores (top schools in the enrollment areas)... This arrangement is to eliminate the number of candidates who have passed the specialized school entrance exam or passed the top schools according to their first choice to calculate the benchmark scores closer to the lower-ranked schools.

According to Hanoi regulations, each candidate will have 3 wishes to enter non-specialized grade 10. Of which, wishes 1 and 2 are in one recruitment area (Hanoi has 12 recruitment areas). Wish 3 is in any area.

Candidates who have passed their first choice will not be considered for their second or third choices. The standard score for the second choice will be 1.0 point higher, and the standard score for the third choice will be 2.0 points higher than the standard score (first choice).

Also on the evening of July 4, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training announced the admission scores for 4 specialized high schools under the department.

Timelines candidates need to note

It is expected that by July 8 at the latest, schools will receive the exam results to issue to students. Students who wish to have their exam results reviewed must submit their applications between July 4 and July 10.

From July 10 to July 12, admitted students must confirm their enrollment (online or in person). On July 17, schools that do not have enough students will enroll additional students, and from July 19 to July 22, admitted students will confirm their enrollment.

On July 28, candidates will receive the results of the exam review and from July 28 to July 30, schools will continue to process student records after the review and successful candidates (after the review) will confirm their enrollment.

The 10th grade entrance exam for the 2025-2026 school year in Hanoi will take place on June 7 and 8 with subjects including literature, math, and foreign language (for non-specialized groups).

Hanoi has nearly 104,000 candidates registered to take the entrance exam to public high schools. The enrollment target for public schools this year is about 64% of the number of candidates, about 2% higher than last year.
