Vietnamese Identity in the Digital Age: When Technology Becomes a Cultural Bridge

Vietnamese culture and identity are currently facing a great opportunity to spread, compete and conquer the global public. With that spirit, the cooperation between the Copyright Office (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) and TikTok Vietnam has contributed to opening a new direction, affirming the power of digital technology and modern media platforms.

The event
The event "TikTok Food Fest 2025 - Multi-layered delicacies" takes place on a large scale in Ho Chi Minh City.

At this series of cooperation events, Director of the Copyright Office Tran Hoang emphasized: Digital platforms in general and TikTok in particular are playing the role of a bridge to help traditional values blend with contemporary creativity, gradually turning culture into a thread connecting people, memories and national identity and reaching out to the world .

That message reflects the trend of the global cultural industry. South Korea has turned K-pop and cinema into a spearhead industry; Japan has turned manga and anime into global icons; Thailand has affirmed its culinary brand on the international map. Vietnam, with its rich "soft resources" from heritage, cuisine, folk art to music ... can absolutely do the same if it organizes a synchronous creative ecosystem.

Director of the Copyright Office Tran Hoang spoke at the event.

This spirit was concretized through the event "TikTok Food Fest 2025 - Multi-layered delicacies", which recently took place in Ho Chi Minh City. In just 2 days, September 19-20, tens of thousands of visitors immersed themselves in a culinary festival, where tradition and modernity coexist, where big brands go hand in hand with folk artists, young chefs and hundreds of content creators.

The highlight of the event was the combination of live performance and online dissemination: Michelin-starred chef Vo Thanh Vuong and more than 100 TikTok creators directly interacted and performed, creating a cultural space that was both vibrant and rich in identity.

In particular, the lacquer painting "Vietnamese Taste" with the theme of 3-region cuisine with an area of 50m², recreating 106 typical dishes, made by 50 artisans and students with the participation of 2,000 audiences has become a symbol of community connection, while affirming the value of traditional fine arts in a new approach.

The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Copyright Office and TikTok marks an important step forward in protecting the rights of artists, businesses and the creative community.

In addition to the live event, the hashtag campaign #FoodFestOnTikTok demonstrated the viral power of the hybrid online and offline model. Before the festival opened, the campaign had reached 416 million views with more than 4,200 videos, including 186 creators participating in the 21-day challenge.

Initial positive signals show that, if implemented in the right direction, cultural events can reach hundreds of millions of views, attract hundreds of thousands of creative products and, more importantly, form a sustainable creative community. That interaction also shows that the short video format is the fastest way to bring a cultural product to millions of audiences, especially the younger generation.

The #BanSacViet campaign, chaired by the Copyright Office in coordination with TikTok Vietnam, is a long-term continuation of the above successes. Built on a new mindset, using digital technology as a tool, content creation as a driving force, and community as the core, the campaign aims to promote and spread 12 cultural industries of Vietnam, from cinema, music, fashion, fine arts, to tourism and handicrafts.

The value of Vietnamese cuisine is spread through digital technology.

The message "Vietnamese identity - shining globally" expresses the desire to bring Vietnamese culture to the world in the most familiar, modern and easily spread form. This is not only a communication campaign, but also a long-term orientation for the development strategy of Vietnam's cultural industry in the digital age.

Within the framework of the event, a Memorandum of Understanding between the Copyright Office and TikTok was signed, marking an important step forward in protecting the rights of artists, businesses and the creative community. Copyright is both a legal matter and the foundation for a transparent and fair cultural market.

As Director Tran Hoang affirmed, this agreement will create a substantial premise to bring Vietnam's cultural industry closer to the international community, through the power of technology and content creation. When creative rights are protected, artists and businesses will have the motivation to invest long-term, contribute quality products, thereby enhancing the position of Vietnamese culture in the digital space.

The event marks a step of coordination between many units to spread Vietnamese identity to the world.

From this event and campaign, many experiences and solutions can be drawn to preserve and promote Vietnamese identity in the digital age. First of all, it is necessary to maintain and expand cross-sectoral communication campaigns, combining state management, technology enterprises and the creative community. It is this coordination that creates a complete ecosystem: Policy-technology-creation-community.

In addition, it is necessary to focus on training and improving digital creativity capacity for artists and cultural enterprises. Such programs can become a space for artists to learn how to reach young audiences through short videos, and for enterprises to learn how to tell brand stories using new technology.

Synchronizing policy and communication is also an urgent task. Short clips updating policies and international trends will help the creative community stay up to date and avoid being left behind.

And finally, we need to consider the content creation community as a pioneering force, "digital cultural ambassadors" who contribute to spreading the image of Vietnam globally.

The journey to preserve and promote Vietnamese identity in cyberspace still has many challenges. However, with the support of management agencies, the creativity of artists, the participation of technology enterprises and the response of the community, this path is completely feasible. More importantly, the journey to promote culture also opens up opportunities for every Vietnamese person, whether at home or abroad, to become more attached to and proud of their national identity.
