On the afternoon of December 17, responding to Lao Dong Newspaper, Ms. Truong Thi Phuong (owner of Phuong 2 bakery, Hoi An) said that the shop had finished its 3-month suspension, from September 11 to December 11.
“Today, the restaurant mainly invited regular customers who have supported the restaurant for a long time to listen to their feedback, after applying some changes, especially new machines and processes. The restaurant will be running a trial operation for about 2 weeks, and will officially open after the New Year,” said Ms. Phuong.
Talking about the incident that caused food poisoning to hundreds of customers, Ms. Phuong shared that this was an unfortunate incident, a big shock to the family after more than 30 years of operation and had affected everyone.
“We realized that we need to look back at ourselves, find out what went wrong and fix it to make things better, especially for the safety of our customers. The restaurant has also made improvements in space, service standards, and food hygiene and safety to satisfy customers,” Ms. Phuong added.
Some customers who came to support Banh Mi Phuong 2 on the first day of operation after 3 months of closure said that they were looking forward to enjoying Banh Mi Phuong, not only because this is a famous culinary brand but also because of the shop owner's willingness to learn and correct mistakes.
Mr. TVT, a resident of Cam An ward, Hoi An city, said that during the time that Banh Mi Phuong 2 store was suspended, the number of tourists coming to the Phan Chu Trinh street area where this store is located also decreased significantly.
Ms. Le Thi Hong Cam - Head of the Food Safety and Hygiene Department under the Quang Nam Department of Health said that the unit has instructed the owner of Phuong 2 Bread to correct violations in food hygiene and safety. After the store is put into operation, the Department will send a force to directly inspect this facility.
Previously, speaking with Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Nguyen Van Son, Chairman of Hoi An City People's Committee, said that Phuong bread is a long-standing culinary brand associated with Hoi An, so when an unexpected incident occurs, Hoi An's image is also damaged.
“Hoi An is a tourist city, famous for its diverse street food. This is a painful lesson, like a warning for businesses and Hoi An as a whole. We will tighten management, inspection and supervision of street food shops and businesses to minimize similar incidents,” Mr. Son emphasized.
Phuong 2 Bread has caused food poisoning for 313 customers, including 103 foreigners. Nha Trang Pasteur Institute has discovered Salmonella spp bacteria, the leading cause of food poisoning with symptoms: abdominal pain, frequent loose stools, vomiting, high fever in Phuong 2 bread samples.
Banh Mi Phuong 2 was fined 96 million VND by the People's Committee of Quang Nam province and suspended for 3 months. The owner of this establishment also apologized to customers and supported the victims of food poisoning.
