Level 12 storm enters the East Sea

VnExpressVnExpress05/10/2023

On the afternoon of October 5, storm Koinu with the strongest wind speed of 133 km/h (level 12) entered the northern East Sea, becoming the fourth storm in this sea area this year.

The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said that at 4 p.m., the storm's center was about 370 km east-southeast of Guangdong (China), moving west at a speed of 10 km/h.

By 4 p.m. tomorrow, the storm's center will be about 140 kilometers from Guangdong, down to level 10. The storm will then move westward at a speed of 5-10 kilometers per hour and continue to weaken into a tropical depression on the afternoon of October 8 in the northern East Sea.

The Japan Meteorological Agency said the storm was at 126 km/h and weakened to a tropical depression on October 8. Hong Kong's weather agency gave a similar assessment.

Due to the influence of the storm, the northern East Sea has strong winds of level 7-10, then increasing to level 11-12, waves 2-4 m high, especially in the northeast area waves 4-6 m, near the storm center waves 6-8 m high.

Koinu is the fourth storm to enter the East Sea this year. Compared to the same period many years ago, after entering the East Sea, the storm tends to move north, not west, passing the Philippines and affecting Vietnam. Before Koinu, typhoon Sao La in late August and early September also followed the same path.

The meteorological agency forecasts that in October there will be 1-2 storms and tropical depressions affecting mainland Vietnam.
