Ensuring power supply during peak season

BAC GIANG - In 2025, Bac Giang will continue to accelerate industrial development, combined with increased household electricity load, leading to a sharp increase in demand for commercial electricity consumption. Faced with that challenge, the province has proactively directed the synchronous implementation of many solutions to ensure a stable and continuous power source to serve socio-economic development and meet the essential needs of the people.

Quick troubleshooting, system maintenance

Recently, the severe heat wave in the North and Central regions has caused a high demand for electricity, with peak load capacity reaching an all-time high. In this situation, the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Industry and Trade have continuously issued telegrams directing the need to ensure electricity supply during peak months of 2025 and the coming time. Bac Giang is a locality with a rapid industrial development speed, if there is a power shortage, it will greatly affect the production and business of enterprises, disrupting people's lives.

It is forecasted that in 2025, the electricity load in the province will reach a maximum of 1,240 MW, an increase of 8% compared to 2024. While the reserve power of factories in the Northern region is still weak, the probability of power plant incidents may occur, leading to a capacity shortage that must be reduced by up to 50% compared to the demand. Therefore, the electricity industry has proactively taken measures to limit the interruption of electricity supply.

Since the beginning of June, the province has also recorded a new record power consumption, reaching 1,166 MW on the evening of June 2, surpassing the peak of 2024 (1,148 MW). This is the highest power consumption since the beginning of 2025 in the locality. The reason is that at times the outdoor temperature reached over 40 degrees Celsius. Due to the sudden increase in electricity demand, many electrical problems have occurred. Typically, on June 10, the specialized agency had completed repairs and was preparing to turn on electricity to serve hundreds of households in Xuan Huong commune (Lang Giang) at around 9:00 p.m. when the problem on the grid occurred again. The officials and workers of the electricity industry made efforts to fix the problem, working all night to repair it, so after a few hours the electricity was restored.

Previously, from the beginning of the year, the Company inspected, maintained and upgraded the power transmission infrastructure.

According to the Bac Giang City Electricity, the unit has proactively deployed 343 working sessions to inspect power lines and equipment, promptly detecting and handling potential technical defects. At the same time, it has carried out 48 maintenance, repair and troubleshooting sessions on the grid. To improve transmission efficiency and load balancing, the unit has changed and swapped capacity for 45 transformers, combined with phase balancing for 376 distribution transformers across the system. Bac Giang City Electricity has also proactively coordinated tree trimming inside and outside the grid corridor throughout the city, ensuring grid safety.

Pay attention to saving electricity

In addition, Bac Giang Electricity Company also organizes work with electricity customers to sign agreements on load adjustment, load shifting, commitment to save electricity, mobilize generators; monitor and closely follow the electricity usage situation to promptly adjust the optimal operation plan to ensure system safety and stable electricity supply. Encouraging people and businesses to install rooftop solar power systems is also considered a feasible direction to reduce pressure on the centralized power system during peak hours. Therefore, the Company focuses on propaganda, guidance, support, and facilitation for businesses and people to install and use self-produced and self-consumed rooftop solar power according to regulations.

To date, the province has more than 600 customers installing rooftop solar power with a total capacity of nearly 15 MWp, the cumulative electricity output to the grid in the first 5 months of the year is more than 2.6 million kWh. In addition, many households have installed solar power for self-production and self-consumption without connecting to the grid, thereby contributing to reducing pressure on the national grid.

According to the representative of the Department of Industry and Trade, in the context of continuously increasing electricity load, especially in the peak summer months, ensuring continuous, safe and efficient power supply is an extremely urgent requirement. Promoting its advisory role, the Department of Industry and Trade has proactively coordinated with the electricity sector to implement many practical activities. Specifically, the Department regularly monitors and supervises the progress of electricity investment projects in the area; organizes working sessions and site surveys to promptly remove difficulties and obstacles for implementing units. Speeding up the construction progress, completing and putting new electricity projects into operation will increase capacity and increase the reliability of electricity supply.

In parallel with the above solutions, the People's Committee of Bac Giang province has strongly directed departments, branches, localities and enterprises in the area to strengthen propaganda and raise public awareness about economical and efficient use of electricity. Accordingly, the province encourages the application of optimal energy management models in production facilities and residential areas; gradually replace lighting systems with energy-saving devices, promote the application of automatic control technology in public lighting management. Notably, many localities have proactively deployed the use of solar energy for urban lighting, advertising and outdoor decoration purposes.

The implementation of this directive has recorded initial positive results: Many public lighting points and traffic lights have switched to using solar power; in many rural areas, people have proactively installed solar energy equipment, reducing monthly electricity bills.
