CHINA - The Organizing Committee of the Global Mathematics Competition confirmed that Jiang Ping (17 years old) - a female vocational high school student cheated to enter the final round of the competition.
On November 3, NetEase reported that the Organizing Committee (OC) of the 2024 Global Mathematics Competition officially confirmed that Khuong Binh - a 17-year-old female student in the first year of the Fashion Design Department of Lien Thuy Vocational College (China) cheated in the competition:
"Recently, Mr. Vuong Nhuan Thu's student, Khuong Binh from Lien Thuy Vocational College, entered the final round of the competition, attracting public attention. In the final round, Khuong Binh did not win any prize. After investigation, we discovered that Mr. Thu had supported his student in the preliminary round. This violated the Organizing Committee's regulations prohibiting discussion with others.
The incident revealed the limitations in the management of the exam system of the Organizing Committee. We sincerely apologize to everyone. The Global Mathematics Competition is a community event, aiming to create a healthy playground for those who love Math. After the incident, the Organizing Committee will seriously listen to opinions and suggestions from all sides to gain experience to perfect the exam organization regulations."
After the official conclusion from the Organizing Committee of the Global Mathematics Competition, Lien Thuy Vocational College - where Mr. Vuong Nhuan Thu works and Khuong Binh is studying, also said: "The school decided to reprimand Mr. Thu and revoke his eligibility to participate in this year's award activities."
"The school will continue to strengthen the building of teachers' ethics and learning atmosphere, guiding teachers and students to form the right concept of success. In addition, we also hope that the public will be more tolerant and loving towards Khuong Binh," said a school representative.
Previously, in June, Mr. Trieu Ban of Peking University - who participated in the competition 3 times and reached the finals, affirmed that 99.99% of Khuong Binh's talent was staged. Mr. Ban pointed out that the female student's problem-solving process had many basic errors such as: Incorrect identification and incorrect differential notation. He said that Khuong Binh did not understand the nature of the problem and only copied the answer.
"I do not defame anyone. However, Khuong Binh's image was exaggerated to promote the coach's talent," said Mr. Ban. Immediately after that, the contestants who made it to the final round also requested the Organizing Committee to make public Khuong Binh's work to serve the examination.
Khuong Binh - a female student from a village secondary school once caused a stir when she surpassed many candidates from the world's top universities such as: Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Cambridge University (UK), Tsinghua University and Peking University (China)... to reach the finals of the global Mathematics competition, with 93 points and ranked 12th.
