The 1st Ho Chi Minh City Theater Festival 2024, organized by the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City in coordination with the Vietnam Theater Artists Association, the Ho Chi Minh City Theater Association and related units, took place from November 12 to 29.
The festival has 24 plays by 19 art units performed over 15 days, along with many other activities such as: Dialogue space "Plays and the public"; Photo exhibition of activities of public and non-public art units...

People's Artist Nguyen Thi Thanh Thuy, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City, Head of the Festival Organizing Committee, said: "One of the differences of the Festival is that the units do not perform at one location as usual, but the Art Council will go to each unit's stage to watch and evaluate.
This helps units have more advantages when performing at their home stadium, where there is a familiar system of scenery, sound, light and space, as well as being more proactive in organizing, staging and performing.
For contestants without a fixed location, the Organizing Committee will support a contest location with technical conditions that meet performance standards.
With the theme "Southern Aspiration", the 1st Ho Chi Minh City Theater Festival - 2024 has become a special event in the context of the country's developing cultural industry. The Theater Festival has affirmed the true values of drama art and the traditional values of the nation. This activity also aims to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025).

The Organizing Committee awarded 5 gold medals to 5 excellent plays including: "Giang Huong" (Thien Dang Stage); "Canh Dong Ruc Lua" (Quoc Thao Drama Stage); "Comrade" (Ho Chi Minh City Theater Association); "The Last Dream" (Hoang Thai Thanh Drama Stage); "Duc Thuong Cong Ta Quan Le Van Duyet - The Man with 9 Death Sentences" (IDECAF Drama Theater).
6 Silver Medals went to 6 plays: "Aspiration for Peace " (City Drama Theater); "Sweet Strawberry" (Truong Hung Minh Art Stage); "White Virgin Petals" (New Impression Media and Entertainment Company Limited); "Broken Silk String" (Hong Van Drama Stage); "That Day, Heaven's Gate" (Trinh Kim Chi Drama Stage); "Missing and Loving by Mistake" (Saigon Flat Advertising Media Services Joint Stock Company).
The Organizing Committee awarded 28 gold medals and 41 silver medals to outstanding individuals and actors in the plays, including famous artists such as: Thanh Loc, Doan Minh Tai, Thanh Hoi, Tuyet Thu, Huu Chau, Minh Du, Cat Phuong, Chanh Truc...
There are also awards for creative elements such as: Outstanding music (Nguyen Huu Thu, stage name Cao Minh Thu - play "Giang Huong"); Outstanding author (Ngoc Truc of play "Canh Dong ruoc lua"); Outstanding art design (Tran Thi Lua - play "Ngay ai cong troi"); Outstanding lighting design (Meritorious Artist Thien My of play "Ngay ai cong troi"); Unit with impressive promotional communication form (Hong Van Drama Stage - play "Bong canh co"); Play with children's theme (Thien Dang Stage - play "Colora - Xu soc roc").
