The Liverpool legend led Rangers from 2018 to 2021 and is considered a bright choice to return to coaching at the Scottish club, according to The Guardian .
Gerrard is currently unemployed after leaving Saudi Arabia's Al-Ettifaq club in January. During his time in charge of Rangers, he made a strong impression by winning the 2020/21 Scottish Premier League title - Rangers' first title since 2011, ending the dominance of arch-rivals Celtic.
Although his time in charge at Aston Villa and Al-Ettifaq was not as successful as expected, Gerrard still received a lot of support from Rangers fans. This was considered a rare opportunity for him to return to a familiar environment and restore his reputation in his coaching career.
Besides Gerrard, other candidates mentioned include Sean Dyche - a coach with a lot of experience in the Premier League, and former Sheffield Wednesday captain Danny Rohl. However, in terms of attachment and prestige with Rangers fans, Gerrard is the dominant name.
On October 5, Rangers decided to sack manager Russell Martin after 123 days in charge - making him the shortest-serving manager in the club's history. The decision was made right after a 1-1 draw with Falkirk, a result that exhausted the patience of the Rangers board.
