According to Thanh Nien reporters, these days in August, the lake surface of Thuy Tien Water Park is dry, the bottom is exposed, creating a desolate and mysterious scene. Although the project management board has put up a sign not accepting visitors, this address still attracts tourists to come and explore every day.
No other park in Vietnam, regardless of its type, whether in operation or closed, has received as much attention from foreign newspapers as the abandoned Thuy Tien Lake water park. The park has appeared in famous newspapers such as the US Huffington Post in 2016 and 2019 when it was said that this place is not for the faint-hearted; the US television channel CNN put the lake on the list of 10 world- famous amusement parks that are breathtakingly beautiful, but have been "closed forever"; or the Washington Post ranked Thuy Tien Lake on the list of 11 attractive but scary abandoned parks... Thuy Tien Lake has also appeared in international music videos.
Why has the famous abandoned water park in Hue not been renovated as planned?
Thuy Tien Lake Water Park was built in 2000 and completed in 2004 with an area of nearly 50 hectares, including many items such as an aquarium, ecosystem, water music area... extremely massive.
However, after completion, the project did not achieve the desired business results and was forced to close. This place has become a symbol of desolation, an unwilling "ghostly" tourist destination.
When entering the area of Thuy Tien Lake, visitors immediately feel the silence and gloom. The architectural structures have been rotted by time and weather, the building materials have faded and cracked.
What overwhelms visitors is the giant, majestic, mysterious dragon statue with its head facing the lake.
Stepping inside, visitors feel like they are entering a mysterious world. Over the years, the items of this massive construction have almost degraded. The mottled walls are covered with drawings, creating a quiet atmosphere.
From the dragon's mouth, many tourists stop and look out into the distance to fully admire Thuy Tien Lake, surrounded by immense green pine hills.
Continuing through the pine forest, visitors will come to the water park, covered by wild plants. Here, the slide system is covered with moss, wild grass, and the lake is murky.
"I learned about this place through the newspapers. Although it's a bit scary and mysterious, the more you explore, the more you'll be captivated," said Phan Bao Phu (22 years old, from Quang Tri).
In mid-2020, the leaders of the People's Committee of Thua Thien-Hue province inspected this area, thereby requesting the authorities to promptly complete the handling of assets on the land to implement the project of a cultural park serving the community.
By September 2022, the People's Committee of Hue City approved the investment policy to renovate Thuy Tien Lake Park with a total value of 20 billion VND. It is expected that the renovation and completion will be completed and open to visitors in March 2023. However, up to now, the project has not been able to be implemented due to some problems related to land allocation procedures and asset auctions left by the old investor.
