• Improve boarding quality, ensure learning conditions for the new school year
  • Replicating the model of teaching 2 sessions/day, boarding school
  • Identify needs and prioritize resources to implement the Project of teaching 2 sessions/day and semi-boarding

The canteen at Ham Rong Primary School was established in the 2011-2012 school year, from the coordination and social mobilization between the school and parents. By the 2015-2016 school year, students from poor and near-poor households, ethnic minority households and vulnerable groups were supported with food expenses from the SEQAP Program. In addition, the kitchen was also supported by superiors with funding for renovation and upgrading, meeting the needs of students studying 2 sessions/day .

Meals are always strictly checked by the school for food safety and hygiene to ensure students' health.

Although the SEQAP Program ended in the 2018-2019 school year, with the efforts of the whole school, the boarding kitchen is still maintained and operating effectively.

In the 2025-2026 school year, the school has 370 students, of which about 130 are boarding students at noon. In particular, to reduce the financial pressure on parents, especially those from disadvantaged families, the school has appropriate support policies.

Mr. Vu Van Tai, the school's principal, said that according to regulations, the boarding fee is 50,000 VND/day/student, but in reality, the school only charges 32,000 VND. In addition, the school reduces 50% for students in difficult circumstances; in some cases, the school exempts 100%. This source is supported by sponsors or by sharing food rations of students who eat less.

Regularly before 6am every day, 2 kitchen staff are present, supporting each other in preparing and completing meals, and setting them out at least 10 minutes before the children leave school. The daily meals include 3 main dishes; before the afternoon classes, the children also have a light meal with dishes such as: fruit or yogurt...

Food preparation is completed by the kitchen staff at least 10 minutes before the children finish school.

A boarding kitchen not only helps schools manage students better, but is also the expectation of parents whose children study far away, helping to reduce the burden, save time and ensure the safety of their children.

Ms. Pham Thi Cuc, Chong My A hamlet, Nam Can commune , shared that her house is about 8 km from her children's school, a long distance, and on rainy days, taking her children to and from school is difficult. Her husband works, she is a housewife, if she does not send her children to boarding school, she has to take her two children to and from school 4 times a day, which takes a lot of time and affects family life.

“The kitchen is clean, the teachers take good care of the children. Thanks to the boarding kitchen, it is very convenient for parents and students,” Ms. Cuc confided.

Paying special attention to food safety, the school strictly implements regulations on meal management; develops reasonable meals to meet students' nutritional needs; scientific , balanced, diverse and suitable menus, contributing to improving meal quality.

The school signs contracts with food suppliers to ensure clear origin and food hygiene and safety. Every week, the school health department will create a menu that ensures nutrition and regularly changes the dishes according to the season and students’ preferences,” said school principal Vu Van Tai.

Lam Tieu Man, Class 5A, shared: “I have been studying at the boarding school for 5 years, from Grade 1 until now. The food is very delicious and suitable for my taste. The teachers take good care of us, so our stay, sleep, and meals are very good.”

After lunch, the children read books, take a nap to relax and get ready for the afternoon class.

After nearly 15 years of operation, the kitchen at Ham Rong Primary School has been constantly on fire, not only providing full meals, but also sowing seeds of love for the future, so that every child in the countryside can confidently go to school.
