The arrival of the new generation BMW iX3 marks the beginning of the German carmaker's Neue Klasse era, where BMW plans to launch at least 40 new or upgraded models by 2027.

But on the other hand, three familiar car lines of the company will be eliminated. According to Carscoops, the first name to be discontinued soon is BMW X4. First launched in 2018 and facelifted in 2021, this coupe SUV is said to not have a successor generation using an internal combustion engine.

In Germany, the BMW X4 is currently only sold with diesel engines, while the petrol version has been discontinued since September 30. After production is discontinued, the X4's position will be indirectly replaced by the smaller X2 line. In addition, an electric iX4 version on the Neue Klasse platform like the iX3 is said to be in development.

Next up is the 8-Series, a premium coupe that debuted in 2018. Despite a minor facelift in 2022, sales have been modest, with the 4-door Gran Coupe accounting for the majority of sales.

In the US, the 8-Series will stop at the 2026 version. Recently, the company also launched the limited edition M850i Edition M Heritage with 500 cars worldwide. This is considered a farewell to the 8-Series line, which is also the basis for the special versions Skytop and Speedtop.

BMW has yet to announce plans for the next generation, while rumors of a 6-Series revival remain unconfirmed. This leaves BMW's current coupe lineup with just the 2-Series and 4-Series.

The third BMW model expected to be discontinued soon is the Z4. The two-door convertible will continue to be sold in the US and Europe in sDrive30i and M40i versions until the end of next year. However, production at the Magna Steyr plant in Graz, Austria, is expected to end in the spring of 2026.

The Z4 has no successor, which means BMW will withdraw from the convertible segment. Meanwhile, the model that shares the same platform as the Z4, the GR Supra, is preparing for a new generation developed by Toyota.

BMW fans are hoping for a new sports car in the Neue Klasse era that could fill the void left by the Z4. This could be the all-electric coupe that leaked photos from last year, although BMW has yet to reveal any details.

In terms of sales, in the first eight months of 2025, BMW sold only 1,916 X4s, 659 8-Series and 2,613 Z4s in Germany. The sales of all three accounted for only a small fraction of the total 160,000 BMW cars sold in their home country during the same period.
