The Ministry of Construction has just approved the planning of Gia Binh International Airport with a capacity of 50 million passengers/year. |
According to the Decision, Gia Binh Airport will be developed in two main phases. In the first phase from 2021 to 2030, the airport is planned to have a capacity to serve about 30 million passengers/year and 1.6 million tons of cargo/year.
Phase 2, with a vision to 2050, the airport's capacity will be significantly expanded, increasing to about 50 million passengers/year and 2.5 million tons of cargo/year.
The decision also approved the total land use demand for this airport in the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050 of 1,960 hectares. Of this total area, land for civil aviation projects accounts for the majority, up to 943.94 hectares. Land planned for shared airport projects is 99.94 hectares and land for national security and defense is 75.07 hectares.
The planning also details the functional areas. The passenger terminal in the period 2021-2030 is planned in the Eastern area, meeting the capacity of 30 million passengers/year. Vision 2050, the passenger terminal will be expanded to the West to meet the capacity of 50 million passengers/year.
Similarly, the cargo terminal is also planned in the eastern region in the first phase and will be expanded to the east in the 2050 vision, while also providing for development in the southern region when needed.
The planning requires orienting the connection of Gia Binh airport with the expressway from Hanoi to Hai Phong Port and city. The People's Committee of Hanoi and Bac Ninh province are responsible for coordinating to review, complete the planning and invest in connecting roads and railways, ensuring the operational efficiency of the project.
The Ministry of Construction also requested the People's Committee of Bac Ninh province to review and protect land funds for the project, proactively coordinate with relevant ministries and branches to ensure effective electricity, water, and traffic infrastructure connections, ready for the development of a new regional aviation center...
Gia Binh International Airport is planned to spread across the communes of Gia Binh, Luong Tai, Nhan Thang and Lam Thao (Bac Ninh province).
According to calculations by the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, the estimated investment cost according to the planning of Gia Binh Airport is about 161,600 billion VND in the 2021-2030 period, about 52,700 billion VND with a vision to 2050.
Possessing a strategic location, located in the connecting triangle of Hanoi - Bac Ninh - the North, the airport not only meets the rapidly increasing demand for air transport but also carries the mission of affirming the stature and position of Vietnam on the world aviation map.
With a capacity of 50 million passengers/year and nearly 2,000 hectares of land allocated for infrastructure development, this project opens a strong growth cycle for the commercial real estate, logistics and satellite urban segments in the Capital Region.
