Bac Ninh Farmers' Association: Arousing the movement, uniting members

BAC NINH - In Bac Ninh today, farmers have gradually become "intellectual farmers", mastering techniques and proactively integrating. Looking back over the past years, Farmers' Associations at all levels in the province have had many innovations and creativity in their activities to contribute to building modern agriculture and sustainable rural areas.

Farmers' support

After the merger, Bac Ninh has 99 Association bases, 2,723 branches and more than 387 thousand members, forming a widespread and stable network, capable of covering the entire rural area and craft villages. This is the "organizational fulcrum" for the Provincial Farmers' Association to convey policies, promote movements and unite members.

From 2023 to now, the Association has communicated to more than 2.1 million people; published nearly 20,000 newsletters; organized over 2,000 training classes, vocational training for 10,000 rural workers, of which 85% have jobs after vocational training. The Farmers Support Fund reached 227 billion VND, along with more than 7,000 billion VND in outstanding credit through lending groups, helping tens of thousands of households boldly invest in expanding production.

The movement “Good farmers in production and business” has become a highlight with more than 300,000 registrations each year, nearly 175,000 households achieving the title. From that movement, many exemplary farmers have been honored. Mr. Nguyen Thanh Liem (Viet Doan commune), one of the “farmer scientists ”, shared: “I think farmers are not only good at production but also can invent. The improved seeding machine I made from scrap iron has helped the whole village save a lot of labor. Seeing the excitement of the people, I feel that farming is also a very proud profession”. With the model of raising pigs according to the circular agriculture direction, Mr. Hoang Dinh Que, Tan An ward has an income of 1.5 billion VND/year, creating regular jobs for 6 workers.

The merger of the two former provinces of Bac Giang and Bac Ninh into the new Bac Ninh province today not only has administrative significance but also opens up a strategic vision for agricultural and rural development. The connection between the delta - the key industrial region and the midland with its agricultural strengths creates a diverse development space that is rich in identity.

This agricultural brand has reached more than 30 countries, a vivid example of how to organize production, processing and consumption according to the value chain. Exploiting local strengths, Bac Ninh Farmers' Association develops key products in the direction of standardization, traceability, and access to e-commerce platforms. Regional linkages not only help agricultural products reach further but also help farmers improve quality and brand. Implementing the One Commune One Product Program, the whole province now has hundreds of OCOP products achieving 3-4 stars, many products have been upgraded not only as goods but also as "cultural ambassadors" of Kinh Bac region.

Proactive adaptation

Over the past two years, the Provincial Farmers' Association has mobilized more than VND1.29 billion and nearly 6,000 working days to support the elimination of 153 temporary houses; presented dozens of "Farmer's Love" houses, hundreds of health insurance cards, breeding cows, and savings books to poor members. The Association encourages creativity among farmers to turn small initiatives into products of practical value, spreading the spirit of innovation.

In particular, the Farmers' Association also plays an important role in the movement to build advanced, exemplary new rural areas, while preserving Kinh Bac's cultural identity. From mobilizing members to improve village roads and alleys, to organizing cultural and sports activities, and preserving traditional festivals, the Association has become a core force in both economic development and nurturing spiritual life in rural areas, a reliable support for hundreds of thousands of members. The whole province has formed 236 environmental protection models, concretizing the goal of building green agriculture, adapting to climate change.

The specific results show that the resilience of farmers in the province comes from a solid organizational foundation and a strong spirit of innovation. However, there are still challenges such as small-scale production thinking, uneven technology application, rural environmental pollution and climate change. That requires a new approach, arousing the desire for creativity and sustainability in each farmer. In the new period, the Farmers' Association of Bac Ninh province clearly defines the goal: Building a strong and comprehensive Association, promoting the central role of farmers in agricultural development, and building a model new rural area.

In particular, digital transformation is considered a breakthrough spearhead. To date, more than 187,000 members have participated in the Vietnam Farmers Digital Platform. The Association aims to have 70% of its members equipped with digital skills by 2030, thousands of households putting their products on e-commerce platforms, connecting directly with consumers. It is interested in developing the collective economy associated with the value chain. In the next 5 years, the Association strives to establish 200 more cooperatives and 50 cooperatives, closely linked with processing enterprises and consumer markets. In addition to production development, the Association at all levels continues to focus on implementing social security work.

Entering the digital age, Bac Ninh province not only continues the tradition but also continues the story of "farmers mastering technology, proactively marketing", affirming the position of farmers in the new era: Confident, creative, integrated, contributing to bringing the homeland firmly on the path of comprehensive development, prosperity, and civilization.
