Ancient village setting in the horror film Tam Cam

The crew of "Con Cam" filmed in an ancient village in Quang Tri , in 42 degree Celsius heat while making the first horror film based on the story "Tam Cam".

Director Tran Huu Tan said the setting was one of the crew’s challenges when recreating the life of ancient Vietnamese people. After many months of surveying in the Central region, the film crew chose the main filming location at Ha Trung communal house.

Filming took place in March and April this year, coinciding with the scorching heat in Quang Tri, with temperatures sometimes reaching 42 degrees Celsius. Most of the main actors and extras were required to wear thick layers of clothing. Under the hot weather, the film crew had difficulty moving, and many people fainted while filming at the village communal house. Lam Thanh My - who plays Cam - said that due to the need for many layers of makeup, she faced challenges in portraying the character's psychology under the scorching sun.

The crew representative said that although the film's setting posed many challenges, they accepted it to achieve realistic effects and new footage on the big screen. Previously, Tran Huu Tan had filmed The Forest of Death in Ta Nang - Phan Dung, Soul Eater in the ancient village of Ha Giang .

The script was directed and produced by Hoang Quan and was inspired by a fairy tale. Tam Cam , has many details that are different from the original. The main content of the film revolves around Cam - Tam's half-sister. After Tet in hell village - The series caused a stir at the end of last year. The director said the new work continues to exploit materials from everyday life, culture and folk beliefs.

In addition to Lam Thanh My, the film also features Thuy Diem - the stepmother, Rima Thanh Vy - the Tam, Hai Nam - the Prince. The supporting cast includes artists Hanh Thuy, Ngoc Hiep, Quoc Cuong, Mai The Hiep, and is expected to premiere at the end of September.

Tran Huu Tan, 41 years old, started his career as a TVC director. His first movie - North Kim Thang (2019) - selected for the A Window on Asian Cinema section (for outstanding films by Asian directors) at the Busan Film Festival (Korea).
