Over the past four years, the number of Vietnamese users affected by offline threats has decreased by 57%.

Kaspersky, a global cybersecurity company, blocked 114,802,178 malicious threats via removable USB drives, CDs, DVDs and other offline methods in the country last year. This is a 6% decrease from 121,542,272 in 2022.

Offline threats include objects that enter computers by infecting files, removable media, or that begin to infiltrate the computer system in a hidden form, such as programs inside complex installers, encrypted files, etc.

“The decline in the number of offline threats is due to a number of factors. In addition to the government ’s consistent efforts to raise awareness and improve cybersecurity measures in the country, Vietnamese users are now taking more proactive steps to protect themselves,” said Yeo Siang Tiong, General Manager for Southeast Asia at Kaspersky.

Global cybersecurity company Kaspersky also revealed that it protected 53.3% of Vietnamese users from these offline threats in 2023. This placed Vietnam 23rd globally in terms of the risk associated with offline methods. In the region alone, with a total of 1,661,495 attacks detected and blocked by Kaspersky, Singapore is the least affected country by offline methods in Southeast Asia.
