Military schools announce early admission benchmark scores for 2024

2024 is the first year that military academies and schools will conduct early admissions based on the results of the aptitude test and academic records.

On July 10, the Military Admissions Board of the Ministry of National Defense announced the results of early admission to military academies and schools in 2024, including considering academic records and considering the results of competency assessment tests. The Military Technical Academy and the Military Medical Academy do not use the method of considering academic records.

In 2024, the total enrollment target of military academies and schools is 5,212 candidates, of which the early admission target is 2,191 candidates.

Academies and schools recruit according to 4 methods:

- Direct admission, priority admission and admission of excellent high school students, not more than 15% of the target;

- Admission based on the results of the capacity assessment exam of Hanoi National University and Ho Chi Minh City National University, not more than 20% of the target;

- Admission based on high school transcripts, no more than 10% of the target;

- Admission based on the results of the 2024 high school graduation exam.

With the admission method based on high school graduation exam results, the quota is determined as the remaining quota after considering all the quotas of the three previous methods.

From 2025, the military school sector will organize a separate competency assessment exam. The exam format will be computer-based with the same test as the Hanoi National University is implementing, but will only serve those applying to join the military.

The exam will test comprehensive knowledge including Math, Literature, Foreign Language, Natural Science and Social Science knowledge. Military schools will reserve a maximum of about 30% of the admission quota for capacity assessment and will learn from experience and adjust the quota to suit the following years.

In 2023, the benchmark score based on graduation exam results for military schools ranges from 16.25 to 27.97. The Military Science Academy has the highest score, the Engineering Officer School has the lowest.
