Breakthrough solutions needed to develop digital economy

The meeting approved a report on the current status of digital economic development and key tasks and solutions; the proportion of digital economy in GRDP of 63 provinces and cities; solutions to increase the rate of people using smartphones in localities to promote the digital economy. The goal of the National Strategy on digital economic and social development by 2025, with a vision to 2030, is that the digital economy will account for at least 20% by 2025. To achieve that goal, it is estimated that the digital economy must grow 3-4 times faster than GDP growth, or about 20-25% per year. This is a difficult and challenging task that requires breakthrough solutions.

The meeting discussed solutions on: Space for digital economic development in a number of industries and fields considered to be spearheads of the Vietnamese economy (processing and manufacturing industry; tourism; agriculture; logistics; textiles). Each key economic region forms at least one large regional data center and one regional digital transformation center, focusing on digital enterprises; developing and piloting digital solutions and digital products. Promoting the rate of people using smartphones in localities (especially in the provinces of Tuyen Quang, Dien Bien, Nam Dinh ...) by directing businesses to build and deploy programs to convert subscribers using old 2G/3G technology to smartphones. Some opinions put forward digital transformation solutions in the fields of agriculture, seaports, transportation business, textiles ...

Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung emphasized: Digital economy is a tool to help stabilize and grow sustainably. The 2nd thematic session with the theme " Breakthrough solutions to develop the digital economy in industries and fields" is expected to create an additional boost to promote the development of Vietnam's digital economy in general, promote the development of digital platforms and digital transformation of enterprises, industries and fields in the last 6 months of 2023 in particular. In the coming time, the Ministry of Information and Communications will soon complete the legal corridor, together with the ministries in charge of industries and fields, to determine the role and legal position of digital platforms, and monitor and contribute to ensuring the sustainable development of Vietnam's digital economy.

At the meeting, the Ministry of Information and Communications and the Ministry of Planning and Investment signed a cooperation agreement on supporting businesses in digital transformation and promoting digital economic development.
