Participating in the program When We Are 20 , singer Phuong Vy had the opportunity to share about her journey to music . Phuong Vy revealed that she inherited her musical talent and dream of conquering the stage from her parents.
The female singer said: " My father works in a band, my mother is a singer, but when life became too difficult, my parents were forced to quit singing to go out and earn money. So I sing like I'm fulfilling my parents' dream and so my parents support me completely.
The first time I held a microphone to sing was when I was 6 years old. I was both nervous and scared, but with my parents sitting next to me, I felt very proud."
Phuong Vy shared in the program.
Because her parents also loved music, Phuong Vy was educated very carefully about respecting authors and songs. The female singer revealed that she was once severely scolded by her father for making up song lyrics: "My father was both the person who picked me up and dropped me off and also my "advisor" every time I went to sing. One night I sang the song "Dem thay ta la thac do", my mind at that time was disturbed by something so it was very messy, I couldn't remember the lyrics so I "made up" them.
This was a huge sin for my father. That night when I got home, my father scolded me terribly, I burst into tears, I didn't think he listened so carefully. My father said: You are not allowed to treat the musician like that. They have put their heart and soul into the song and you do that. The way you sing on stage, the way you treat the song shows your respect for the musician and the song, so you are not allowed to sing the wrong lyrics or change the lyrics.
That story became a lesson I will never forget. Although it was a sad story, it was a lesson I will carry with me for the rest of my life.”
Phuong Vy was once severely scolded by her father for "changing" lyrics when singing.
The female singer said that she grew up in a poor family and was educated very carefully by her parents about professional ethics, so she always cherished every opportunity to stand on stage: "When I was young, my family had a very difficult life, so I understood early on that I had to work very hard to ensure my life.
Before competing in Vietnam Idol, I sang in faraway venues. My father drove me to sing in Nha Be, a suburban area, with a salary of only 60,000 - 100,000 VND. But that was a very beautiful time for me, it taught me the courage to sing with all my heart whether standing in front of thousands of spectators or just a few people.
The female singer was eliminated from the show "Beautiful Sister Riding the Wind and Breaking the Waves" after the 3rd performance round.
Sharing the reason for participating in the show "Beautiful Sister Riding the Wind and Breaking the Waves", Phuong Vy revealed: "If this was a singing competition, I probably wouldn't participate because I've already participated in two competitions that were just to show off my voice.
Beautiful Sister Riding the Wind and Breaking the Waves is a competition that not only relies on singing but also requires choreography and stage tricks. Especially, this is not an individual competition but a competition between girl groups, this is the main reason for me to participate.
In 15 years of singing, I have never had a close friend in showbiz, so I joined this contest with the hope of finding someone with the same mindset to be my close friend."
Phuong Vy revealed that although her time with the program was not long, she found compatible friends.
Phuong Vy was born in 1987. She won second prize in the school singing contest Tuoi Doi Mong and first prize in the Vietnam Idol 2007 contest. Phuong Vy also represented Vietnam in Asian Idol 2007 but did not achieve any impressive results.
In 2023, the female singer participated in the show "Beautiful Sister Riding the Wind and Breaking the Waves" but was eliminated in the third performance round.
