Unprecedentedly expensive, 2 million VND/kg of cherries are still 'sold out' at the Tet At Ty market

Cherry is an imported fruit that has appeared in the Vietnamese market for many years with increasingly affordable prices. This Tet At Ty, imported cherries from Chile, Australia, New Zealand... continue to flood the Vietnamese market.

However, imported cherries are no longer cheap as before, flooding the Tet market at high prices. Some types have skyrocketing prices by the day but are still "sold out".

At the Tet market, the cheapest imported cherry is priced at 220,000 VND/kg, while the most expensive is 2 million VND/kg. This is a fairly high price compared to other imported fruits sold in the Vietnamese market today.

According to Ms. Bui Ngoc Lan - owner of a fruit shop in Thanh Xuan (Hanoi), last year, the economy was difficult, many families cut down on Tet spending. However, cherry is one of the imported fruits that people prioritize to buy as gifts, so the goods are consumed very well. In particular, the higher the quality of cherry, the more popular it is during this time.

My company specializes in exporting durian to China, but this batch was shipped late so it couldn’t get through, so I had to return at a cheaper price. 6 bags of durian pulp, 8-9kg of pulp per box, priced at 450,000 VND, 1-for-1 exchange if there is a problem,” a Facebook account named Huong advertised.

Tet market 'shouts price' green bananas at half a million/bunch, cheap goods from the South come out to supply urgently

Green bananas at the Tet market are very expensive. From the 23rd of December, the price of green bananas at the market has been increasing rapidly every day. On the 25th of Tet, the price of bananas from the North sold at the market is sky-high, from 200,000 to 400,000 VND/bunch, twice as expensive as last year's Tet. For beautiful bunches of bananas with odd fruits (bunch of 25, 27, 29 or 31 fruits), the sellers "ask for" 450,000 to 500,000 VND/bunch.

To cool down the green banana market during the Lunar New Year, bananas from the South flooded the Hanoi market at quite cheap prices.

On the online market, green bananas from the South are sold everywhere. Most of the dealers sell by weight at the price of 35,000-50,000 VND/kg; some people choose to sell by fruit, the price ranges from 6,000-8,000 VND/fruit. In fact, a 3-4kg bunch costs only 120,000-160,000 VND/kg.

According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh - a fruit seller in Cau Giay (Hanoi) - this price is 1/3 of the price of green bananas in the North, but customers are not too interested. Because, people are afraid that bananas are transported by refrigerated containers, and when brought home for Tet, they will quickly deteriorate.

Tet flower prices fluctuate, Tay Tuu farmers are worried

As Tet is approaching, flower growers in Tay Tuu (Bac Tu Liem district, Hanoi) are worried because the flower consumption market this year is worse than previous years. Meanwhile, the prices of many types of flowers have dropped sharply compared to this time last year.

Chrysanthemums are grown the most in Tay Tuu. This type of flower is sold for 2,000 VND/flower, half the price compared to last year.

Similarly, this year, violets also dropped sharply, down to 2,500 VND/plant compared to 5,000 VND/plant last year. After the storm, people planted violets en masse, so the price dropped sharply.

The market price of lilies is currently around 30,000 VND/branch of 5 flowers. This year's lily price has not changed compared to last year.

Roses are hard to bloom and scarce after the storm, so prices are higher than last year. Last year the selling price was 5,000 VND/flower. This year, the price of roses is around 8,000-12,000 VND/flower.

House cleaning at the end of the year: Price increased 4 times but still hard to find

On normal days, the price of cleaning service is about 60,000 VND/hour, but from December 15th the price starts to double. On December 26th the price has reached 230,000 VND/hour but it is still difficult to hire people.

"It's not easy to find a cleaner these days. Like me, it took me three times to find someone to clean my house," Ms. Le Thi Thoa (Thanh Xuan district, Hanoi) shared on Tien Phong Newspaper.

Not only Ms. Thoa, many women said that it is very difficult to hire a house cleaning service near Tet. Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy, from Phu Xuyen district (Hanoi) said that in the days before Tet, many customers look for house cleaning services. Therefore, many people, even though they have booked a schedule, but when they see other customers offering higher prices, they "break the deal".

Working tirelessly, car washers and barbers make a lot of money on the eve of Tet.

In the days leading up to Lunar New Year 2025, many services are making a killing by doubling or even tripling prices compared to normal days, but customers are still flocking in.

VTC News reported that Mr. Nguyen Van Tuyen (Nam Tu Liem District, Hanoi) said that the closer to Tet, the higher the car wash price. Accordingly, on December 26-28, the price for washing a 4-5 seater car is 100,000 VND/time (normally 50,000 VND), washing a 7 seater car and pickup truck is 150,000 VND/time (normally 60,000 VND).

In addition to car wash services, beauty salons also have the opportunity to make money during Tet holiday when they are always full of customers all day. Many hair salons that provide haircut services about 2 weeks before Tet are always overloaded, operating at full capacity from early morning to late night but still cannot serve all customers. Due to the large number of customers, haircut prices are also increased by tens to hundreds of thousands of dong.

In addition to shopping for fashion and hair, accessories such as nails and false eyelashes are also very important to women, so nail and eyelash extension spas are always overloaded. Service prices increase by 10% compared to normal days.
