Lesson 4: Returning to the place of departure
Professor Tran Van Giau's revolutionary life was always vibrant, starting from the time he was a student studying abroad and joining the French Communist Party, then studying at the Oriental University (former Soviet Union) before returning home to lead the Southern Regional Party Committee, being imprisoned by the French and escaping from prison... to his monumental historical research works, and then the Tran Van Giau Award left for posterity... Leaving everything behind, the erudite professor of the Southern region returned to rest on his parents' land in a small hamlet.

Heart for homeland and family
Throughout his life, it can be said that Professor Tran Van Giau lived for his homeland, his country, and his loved ones. Most of his assets were used to take care of the education career. Among them is the 1,000 tael gold scholarship fund in Ho Chi Minh City; during his lifetime, he gave scholarships and built schools in Chau Thanh district;... In addition, before passing away, he earnestly wanted to donate his entire personal library to the old Long An province (Tran Van Giau library) to serve the learning and research needs of the people in his hometown.
Professor Tran Van Giau had no children. Before that, when he was alive, he asked his grandchildren to build a tomb for him and his wife, next to each other, near the graves of his parents and grandparents. In 2005, his wife, Mrs. Do Thi Dao, passed away, and her remains were left in their hometown, waiting for the professor to pass away so they could be buried together. His grandchildren and the local government built a tombstone for his grandparents and the entire family cemetery, spacious, dignified but modest and simple like the professor's personality. The tombs were covered with black marble, on a high mound, always windy, surrounded by dragon fruit gardens.

In his final days, although the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee asked for his permission to stay in the city cemetery after his death, he returned to the place where he left. That was also his wish, to return to his hometown, to lie next to his beloved, faithful wife as well as to be near his parents' graves.
In a simple house, the altar of Professor Tran Van Giau is placed next to the altar of his parents and grandparents. The condolence book has a line from former President Nguyen Minh Triet: “An outstanding son of the Southern citadel, a talented leader, an intellectual, a learned scientist , a loyal communist party member. His name and career are truly great and will shine forever!”
The worship of him is undertaken by his nephew (who calls Professor Tran Van Giau "grandfather"), Mr. Tran Van Khoa. He is also the one who looks after and takes care of the tomb and the Memorial Area of Professor Tran Van Giau, along with the attention and support of the local government.

Mr. Khoa confided: “Because he had no children, Professor Tran Van Giau devoted all his affection to his grandchildren in the family. With his relatives, he was known for his gentleness and affection. Regarding his grandchildren's education, he always cared, gave gentle advice, and reminded them to study hard, gain knowledge, and support themselves in the future. He did not place any heavy responsibility on the next generation, only encouraged, motivated, and created all favorable conditions for his grandchildren in their studies. Since his lifetime, whenever any of his grandchildren studied in Ho Chi Minh City, he told them to come and stay at his house. There was no need to worry about food and accommodation.”
Mr. Giau was a son of Long An (now Tay Ninh) and he had a quality that when he did something, he had to do it thoroughly, he was very intelligent, very brave and kept true to the ideal path he had chosen. Although his life had ups and downs, he remained loyal to the Party and the country until the last moment. And above all, patriotism still filled Mr. Tran Van Giau's life. Posterity will always remember him.
In 2022, on the occasion of the 12th anniversary of the death of Professor Tran Van Giau, Long An province organized the inauguration ceremony of the Memorial House of Professor Tran Van Giau in Duong Xuan Hoi commune (now An Luc Long commune) with financial support from the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee. Inside the memorial house, many valuable documents, artifacts, and images are displayed, recreating the life, career, and career of Professor Tran Van Giau, along with research works about the professor and works that won the Tran Van Giau Science Award. Along with the Tran family church and the professor's tomb, the Memorial House of Professor Tran Van Giau has become a "red address", educating historical traditions, fostering love for the homeland and country for today's and future generations.

In addition, to honor the great contributions of the Professor, on the occasion of the opening of the new school year 2024-2025, Long An Specialized High School was renamed Tran Van Giau Specialized High School.
Nguyen Minh Kha, a member of the An Luc Long commune Youth Union, a student of the Faculty of Literature, Dong Thap Pedagogical University, shared that through stories told and researched on mass media, Kha really loved and respected Professor Tran Van Giau. Kha often visited with members and young people to introduce to friends around him about the Professor as well as the local Professor Tran Van Giau Memorial Site.

Secretary of the Party Committee of An Luc Long Commune Nguyen Thi Ut Thuy said that An Luc Long Commune is proud to be the hometown of the late Professor Tran Van Giau, a great intellectual, a staunch communist, a shining example of intelligence, courage and patriotism. The memorial site of Professor Tran Van Giau is not only a "red address" in the work of educating revolutionary traditions and patriotism and studiousness for the younger generation, but also a source of pride and motivation for the Party Committee, government and people in the commune to continue the spirit of dedication and efforts to build the homeland, develop the socio-economy, improve the material and spiritual life of the people, maintain national defense and security, and build a clean and strong political system. Entering a new phase, promoting the heroic revolutionary tradition, continuing the patriotic spirit and indomitable will of the late Professor Tran Van Giau, inheriting the results achieved in the past time, along with the belief and expectation of making good use of opportunities from the merger process, the Party Committee, government and people of An Luc Long commune are determined to build their homeland to be more and more prosperous and happy.
