In the quarterfinals on the night of December 6, Chiem Hong Thai was the only Vietnamese player to participate. In the round of 16, he caused a shock when he defeated world number 1 Dick Jaspers, while two hopes, Tran Quyet Chien and Tran Thanh Luc, were defeated. Entering the quarterfinals, Chiem Hong Thai continued to face strong opponent Cho Myung Woo from Korea. This player was a World Cup champion and the reigning world champion when he won the title in September. He also held the world number 1 position for a time. However, Chiem Hong Thai did not show any signs of weakness. He entered the match strongly, quickly creating a large gap of 13-4. Cho Myung Woo also immediately proved his class with a series of 8 points, shortening the score to 13-16. However, Chiem Hong Thai still kept his spirit to enter the break with a 22-13 advantage. Returning to the competition, the Vietnamese player continued to have brilliant shots. He did not need many long series, but always scored regularly. Cho Myung Woo was not in good form, had many rounds without any points and was gradually left behind. Chiem Hong Thai raced to the finish line with a 50-28 victory, continuing to create another shock at the Billiards World Cup taking place in Egypt. His opponent in the semi-finals will be Eddy Merckx, the legendary player who won the 3-cushion Carom Billiards World Cup 13 times. However, in 2024, he was not in good form and this was the first time this year that he reached the semi-finals of a World Cup. Therefore, Chiem Hong Thai has the right to be confident to continue to create surprises. The match will take place at 3:00 p.m. on December 7 (Vietnam time).
