The launching ceremony of the education sector to support people affected by storm No. 10 was organized by the Ministry of Education and Training and the Vietnam Education Trade Union on the morning of October 3.
At the ceremony, Minister Nguyen Kim Son said that the provinces and cities in the Northern region have been going through especially difficult days due to the serious impact of storm No. 10.
The education sector has also suffered a great deal. According to initial information from some localities, thousands of schools have been damaged; millions of students have not been able to go to school.
Faced with the above heavy losses, Minister Nguyen Kim Son called on the entire education sector, officials, civil servants, employees, students, and organizations and individuals inside and outside the sector to join hands, contribute materially and spiritually, with support, encouragement, and connections to share the difficulties with people in flood-affected areas in general and with the education sector of the northern provinces and cities in particular.
The Minister noted that immediately after the fundraising ceremony, the transfer of support to the beneficiaries should be done as quickly as possible. Priority should be given to supporting people, first and foremost teachers and students.
These are teachers who have suffered losses and difficulties in living conditions and transportation; and students who, without support, will not be able to continue going to school...
At the launching ceremony, leaders of the Ministry of Education and Training, units and individuals inside and outside the education sector donated a total amount of more than 3.6 billion VND.
Previously in Hanoi , many universities such as Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Foreign Trade University, University of Water Resources and Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology also conducted a quick survey to come up with a plan to support students whose families were severely affected by storms and floods.
In which, Hanoi University of Science and Technology classified this group of students as eligible for the Tran Dai Nghia Scholarship. The scholarship amount that students can receive when registering for consideration is 5 or 10 million VND/student.
According to an update from the Ministry of Education and Training as of the afternoon of September 30, 134 schools in Hue were affected; some schools in low-lying areas had to temporarily close.
In Quang Tri, many schools had their roofs blown off, fences collapsed, and equipment damaged; students across the province were absent from school to ensure safety.
In Ha Tinh, 412 educational establishments were affected, with total damage of about 428.95 billion VND; students across the province were out of school.
In Nghe An, 483 educational establishments were affected, causing damage of nearly 300 billion VND; students in the whole province were absent from school to ensure safety.
In Thanh Hoa, 30 educational establishments were affected, and damage is being counted; students will be off school on September 29, and the following days will be decided by educational establishments based on weather developments.
