According to the Telegraph , an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) demonstration company in the US broke the Guinness World Record by using 4,981 UAVs to create a Christmas gingerbread village in the sky.

The show, presented by Sky Elements Drone Shows and UVify, involved 4,981 UAVs creating a festive Christmas scene, including Santa Claus and snow figures, over the town of Mansfield, Texas.

Guinness World Records confirmed the display set a new record for "the largest aerial display of a gingerbread village by a multi-rotor drone".

In addition to the gingerbread village, the show also features Santa Claus in his sleigh, a giant turkey and snowmen.

The centerpiece of the show is UVify's high-performance IFO drone, equipped with a four-constellation navigation system. When performed together, the UAVs are capable of flying the complex flight patterns required to create a high-resolution light show.

Tyler Kubicz, production director of Sky Elements, said the visual design for this program was very complex and the company's technical team took about a month to prepare.

“We wanted to bring the holiday season to life with a special UAV light show,” said Kubicz. “We wanted to spread the holiday spirit in a unique way.”

This year, Sky Elements set a Guinness World Record for the largest aerial display of a fictional character created using a drone, while promoting the movie Deadpool & Wolverine.

Causing less noise and air pollution, UAV light shows are becoming a popular alternative to fireworks displays. However, issues such as windy weather and technical glitches can still cause problems for these advanced technology displays.
