South Korean government partners with Google to combat voice fraud

Enhanced Fraud Protection automatically blocks apps that request access to sensitive information, including social messaging scams.

VietnamPlusVietnamPlus04/09/2025

According to South Korea's Yonhap news agency, on September 4, the country's Ministry of Science and Information and Communications Technology (MSICT) signed an agreement with US technology group Google to coordinate in eliminating voice scams through advanced detection services.

The two parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Seoul and announced the deployment of the Enhanced Fraud Protection (EFP) security solution.

MSICT said the EFP would automatically block apps that request access to sensitive information, including social media messaging scams, and would be available for smartphones released after 2015 without the need for additional settings.

According to the ministry, EFP will help protect about 35 million Android smartphone users in Korea.

According to South Korean government data, the total financial damage caused by this type of crime reached 640 billion won ($460 million) in the first half of 2025, nearly double that of the same period last year.

EFP was first introduced by Google in Singapore in February 2024 and has since been rolled out in many countries, including India and Brazil./.
