Husband suddenly hugged his wife while she was cleaning her ear causing a foreign object to penetrate deep into her left ear.

On the morning of September 17, doctors at the Ho Chi Minh City Ear - Nose - Throat Hospital said they had successfully removed a foreign object from Ms. D.TTV, 25 years old, living in Lam Dong .

Ms. V. had her eardrum punctured by a metal ear pick.

According to Ms. V., at noon on September 12, while she and her husband were preparing to take a nap, Ms. V. was cleaning her left ear with a metal earpick. Suddenly, her husband turned to hug her, and his hand bumped into her hand while cleaning her ear, causing the earpick to go deep into her left ear.

Before that, Ms. V. had a habit of cleaning her ears with this ear pick every day.

Ms. V. was taken to Dinh Quan Regional General Hospital ( Dong Nai ) for examination, then transferred to Ho Chi Minh City Ear - Nose - Throat Hospital.

Doctors said that upon admission the patient was conscious, responsive, not dizzy, and not facially paralyzed. The patient was transferred to the operating room for endoscopy to remove the foreign object from his left ear.

Doctors found the patient's external auditory canal and left eardrum were congested and edematous, with a foreign object penetrating the eardrum into the tympanic cavity.

The foreign object removed was a nearly 6cm long piece of metal in the left middle ear canal, located in front of the ossicular chain, with the inner end touching the internal carotid canal.

After surgery, the patient was awake, had stable vital signs, no dizziness, facial paralysis, bleeding, and no hearing loss. The patient was discharged on September 17.

Doctors recommend not using earpicks.

Through the above domestic accident case, doctors advise people not to use earpicks with hard, sharp, pointed tips to remove earwax. In addition, earpicks (including cotton swabs) should not be inserted deep into the ear canal.

Doctors note that you should not sit and clean your ears in a place where people or objects are passing by, as this can easily lead to collisions and the earwax removal tool being stuck in your ear.

Only use a soft cloth to gently wipe the ear rim and ear opening.

When injured by ear picking, you should go to a medical facility for examination and treatment.
