Joining hands to eliminate temporary houses in Dan Hoa border commune

QTO - Eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses (XNT, NDN) is one of the major policies of the Party and State, which has important and profound humane significance, contributing to ensuring social security and sustainable poverty reduction. In the border commune of Dan Hoa, the Party Committee, local authorities, social organizations and Border Guard forces are joining hands to speed up the progress, bringing confidence and stable housing to thousands of poor ethnic minority households here.

Poor village lights up

Ka Ai village (Dan Hoa commune) is home to 142 households of the Chut, Bru - Van Kieu ethnic groups. Previously, people lived in houses made of wooden planks, bamboo, and fibro-cement roofs, which were built with support from the local government for a long time, but are now seriously degraded.

These days in Ka Ai village, life is bustling with the construction of houses being accelerated by the local authorities and the Border Guard. Looking down from above, Ka Ai village, which used to be poor, is now bright with new houses made of concrete pillars, roofed with corrugated iron, painted bright yellow, which have just been completed.

No longer a distant dream, Mr. Ho Ton's family is waiting to move into a new, spacious house, replacing the wooden house built with State support 15 years ago, which is now seriously degraded. Next to Mr. Ho Ton's house, Ms. Ho Thi Sau, a May (Chut ethnic group), is a poor household whose husband passed away and she has 2 small children, and is also preparing to move into a new house.

Mr. Ton and Ms. Sau are two of 92 households in Ka Ai village that received support to build new houses this time. The houses in Ka Ai village were assigned by the Provincial Steering Committee for Land Use and Natural Resources to the Provincial Border Guard Command to build, each house is worth 90 million VND. The house is designed with a reinforced concrete frame, surrounded by cemboard panels, and a corrugated iron roof.

Up to now, after more than 3 months of construction, many houses have been completed and are waiting for handover and some houses are being rushed to completion. These days, officers and soldiers of the Cha Lo International Border Post are coordinating with the contractor to speed up the progress to handover before the rainy season.

The new houses, when completed, all meet the 3 hard standards (hard foundation, hard frame - wall, hard roof), are sturdy, safe, aesthetically pleasing, and functional in accordance with local customs and practices. In addition to supporting house construction, the Border Guard also donated essential household items such as stoves, pots, basins, bowls, etc. to help people settle down and find work.

More resources needed

The program of XNT and NDN is being implemented vigorously and synchronously in Dan Hoa commune. However, Dan Hoa is a particularly difficult border commune, the rate of poor households is still very high, and the people's need for XNT and NDN is still high. Therefore, the work of XNT and NDN still faces many obstacles and requires large resources to implement.

According to statistics of the People's Committee of Dan Hoa commune, there are 1,095 poor households and 441 near-poor households approved for XNT and NDN in the area, of which 1,351 new households were built and 185 households were repaired. The funding source for implementing the XNT-NDN program is provided from national target programs, XNT and NDN programs and socialized sources.

Vice Chairman of Dan Hoa Commune People's Committee Dinh Ngoc Toa said that up to now, Dan Hoa Commune has completed XNT and NDN for 339 houses, of which 255 houses were newly built and 84 houses were repaired. The number of houses under construction is 384, including 374 newly built houses and 10 houses were repaired. Currently, in the commune, there are 758 households that have not started XNT and NDN construction. In addition, through review, the whole commune has 295 more households in need of XNT and NDN and are requesting approval, of which 230 houses are newly built and 65 houses are repaired.

Dan Hoa was merged from two communes Dan Hoa and Trong Hoa (old), with a natural area of ​​nearly 370km2, a population of 10,000 people. Dan Hoa people are mainly ethnic minorities (Bru-Van Kieu and Chut) living in 28 villages along National Highway 12A and at the foot of Giang Man range. The lives of the people here are still difficult, so the XNT and NDN program is very important, helping people settle down and improve their lives.

According to Mr. Dinh Ngoc Toa, the main reasons why a large number of households in Dan Hoa have not been able to start construction of XNT and NDN during this period are that the number of households currently building houses is quite large, so the number of workers to do the construction is not enough to meet the demand; the commune is spread out, the roads are difficult to travel, and it is also the rainy season, so transporting construction materials is also very difficult; the people are mainly ethnic minorities, their lives are still difficult, so besides the State's support, people have no other source to respond or supplement...

Secretary of the Party Committee of Dan Hoa commune Dinh Xuan Thong said that in the coming time, along with effectively implementing the State's support sources, the locality will continue to promote socialization work, calling on organizations and individuals to join hands in providing medical equipment and medical care for the people.

With the motto, everyone helps, while working, mobilizing support from benefactors, prioritizing households with seriously degraded houses that need to be replaced immediately. The locality considers the XNT and NDN program not only an important political task but also a "conscience and responsibility" towards ethnic minorities in the country's border.
