Vietnamese player Nguyen Hoang Yen Nhi created a spectacular comeback to win a ticket to the semi-finals of the 2024 World Championship Ladies' 3-cushion carom billiards tournament.
In the quarter-final match of the 2024 Women's 3-Cushion Carom Billiards World Championship, which took place on the evening of September 11 in Blois (France), Nguyen Hoang Yen Nhi faced Jackeline Perez (Peru). The Vietnamese female player held the white ball and won the right to start. However, Perez took the initiative for most of the match. The Peruvian player scored points very evenly with precise touches and continuously led Yen Nhi. After the first 7 rounds, Perez created a 6-point gap, leading 10-4. The gap increased to 10 points after 10 rounds, when the Peruvian player had 14 points, while Yen Nhi was still stuck with 4 points through many unsuccessful shots. Perez reached 15 points first (leading 15-7) and brought the match into a break after 13 rounds.

In the second half, Perez suddenly lost his rhythm. In the next 17 turns (from 14 to 30), the Peruvian player only scored 5 points against Nguyen Hoang Yen Nhi's tight play. This was also an opportunity for the Vietnamese player to shorten the gap. The gap was narrowed to only 1 point after 32 turns, when Perez led 20-19. In the last turns, Perez woke up and took a big advantage to win when he held 20-25, then 29-20 (after 39 turns). Although only 1 point was left to get a ticket to the semi-finals, Perez could not finish, partly due to bad luck. On the other side, Yen Nhi had a series of 4 and 3 points to get 27 points. The score was leveled at 29-29 after 45 turns.
After 48 turns, Nguyen Hoang Yen Nhi created an incredible comeback to win 30-29 against Perez, thereby winning a ticket to the semi-finals of the 2024 Women's 3-Cushion Carom Billiards World Championship. In the semi-finals, the Vietnamese player will face Charlotte Soerensen (Denmark), at 4:00 p.m. today (September 12, Vietnam time).
