Vietnamese chess has a commendable young talent
The 2025 World Junior Chess Championship attracted 850 players from 88 countries and territories, competing in the U.8, U.10 and U.12 categories (men and women). Le Phan Hoang Quan participated in the U.10 men's category.
Le Phan Hoang Quan had the same 9 points as the Chinese player but finished second in the world junior chess tournament because of the extra coefficient.

With an elo of 2,030, Le Phan Hoang Quan is the 11th seed out of 150 players participating in the U.10 men's event. After game 8, Le Phan Hoang Quan dropped to 12th place with 6 points, 1 point behind the leading player and 0.5 points behind the group of 6 players in the second place.
The chance to compete for a high ranking was quite slim, but the 5th grader in Ho Chi Minh City had a spectacular breakthrough with 3 consecutive victories against Guo Ziming (China), Ulan Rizat (Kazakhstan), Ivanovic Leonid (Serbia). In which Rizat was the second seed and Ivanovic Leonid was the third seed.

After 11 games, Le Phan Hoang Quan scored 9 points, the same score as Yuan Shunzhe (China) but accepted second place because he lost to his opponent in the extra coefficient. This is an impressive achievement of Le Phan Hoang Quan. Previously in 2023, this young player excellently won the Asian Youth Gold Medal in the U.8 age group.
