In response to people's concerns about replacing electricity meters, Ho Chi Minh City Electricity Corporation (EVNHCMC) affirmed that this is a replacement activity for periodic inspection according to State regulations to ensure the accuracy of measuring equipment, not a mass replacement of new meters.

According to EVNHCMC, there are more than 3.9 million meters serving the electricity sales business of the electricity industry in Ho Chi Minh City. Of which, EVNHCMC has installed 100% of the meters on the grid as electronic meters, combined with a fully automatic measurement data collection system (abbreviated as remote meters).

According to the revised regulations on measurement for group 2 measuring instruments (Decision No. 790 of the Ministry of Science and Technology dated May 7, 2024), the period for periodic inspection (maintenance) is 3 years for three-phase electronic meters and 6 years for single-phase electronic meters.

"Currently, 100% of the meters on the grid are electronic meters, so replacement is only for maintenance when the inspection is due," EVNHCMC informed.

Ho Chi Minh City's electricity sector said that in order to periodically inspect electricity meters in compliance with Decision No. 790, every year the electricity company sends a document to 100% of the wards (communes) under its management, and the wards (communes) disseminate it to each neighborhood.

As for apartments, the electricity industry directly informs the apartment management board before maintenance, to limit the risk when a department impersonates the electricity industry to work with customers. At the same time, the electricity industry has also widely informed customers through the electricity industry's information channels and media agencies.

According to EVNHCMC, periodic meter inspection and replacement is completely free.

"After replacing the meter, the power company will send it to the inspection unit for maintenance, quality check of the meter and inspection for reuse. After the inspection, the unit will send the meters that meet the inspection requirements (accuracy level) back to the power company for reuse (replacement for any customer - PV).

Meters that fail inspection will be sent to the warehouse for repair or liquidation," EVNHCMC informed.

Regarding the issue of people installing additional reference meters to compare with the electricity industry's meters, EVNHCMC said that people installing additional reference meters to compare with the electricity industry's meters is "the customers' decision".

However, the electricity industry notes and recommends electrical safety to customers during installation.
