On September 9, 2025, the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism issued Decision No. 3235/QD-BVHTTDL on ranking the To Vo Gate Scenic Spot in Ly Son Special Zone, Quang Ngai Province as a national relic.
To Vo Gate is the most famous tourist destination in Ly Son Island, a place that any tourist wants to visit once when traveling to Quang Ngai.
This is a completely natural masterpiece, dating back about 3,000-4,000 years, without any impact from human hands.
To Vo Gate scenic spot was formed from the lava eruption of the Gieng Tien volcano (Ly Son), creating a thick basalt layer at the To Vo Gate location. Over time, the basalt layer of To Vo Gate was broken and affected by the erosion of sea waves related to the sea level rise process, breaking into the middle rock layer which has a weaker bond than the rock layer above, creating a hollow level, a hollow hole like a stone gate with the shape of a To Vo nest.
To Vo Gate is about 2.5m high and about 20m long, the gate has a dome shape, along with each stone grain with extremely unique and strange shapes.
The rock surface is rugged, with countless layers of rock stacked on top of each other to represent the magical process of volcanic eruption and cooling over millions of years.
Around the gate are black lava rocks of various shapes hidden in the clear jade-like sea water, above is the vast blue sky creating a beautiful scene.
Because of its wild, unique, distinct, exclusive beauty and high recognition, To Vo Gate is one of the famous landscapes of Quang Ngai province and Vietnam.
To Vo Gate scenic spot is located in the marine cultural space, along with tangible cultural heritage values (Gieng Tien volcano, Duc Pagoda, Hang Cau, Thoi Loi mountain, Xo La well, An Hai communal house, Am Linh Tu, Whale skeleton exhibition house, Hoang Sa Fleet exhibition house managing Bac Hai, Be island area...).
Intangible cultural heritage values are closely linked to the traces and cultural assimilation of three generations of Sa Huynh-Champa-Dai Viet residents, the history of protecting national sovereignty over seas and islands such as festivals, social and religious customs (Khao Le The Linh Hoang Sa ceremony, Tu Linh boat racing festival, Nghinh Ong festival, Doi Bong festival, Neu raising ceremony...).
The To Vo Gate Scenic Area is also a favorable environment for the development of seagrass species and coral reefs, creating rich marine resources. This place converges all the historical, cultural, scientific, aesthetic, service-tourism and economic values.
The Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism has assigned People's Committees at all levels where ranked relics are located, within the scope of their tasks and powers, to carry out state management of relics in accordance with the provisions of law on cultural heritage./.
