Old age labor is more joyful
Mr. Nguyen Van Xuan, Resa Energy Joint Stock Company, residing in Tay Nha Trang Ward, is 65 years old and still working hard on projects to treat waste and protect the environment. Previously, he worked in the field of power transmission.
Initially, he researched and manufactured stone benches and paving stones from plastic and nylon scraps combined with cement and additives. These products have an estimated durability of over 50 years and are currently installed at Nha Trang beach park as a way to promote environmental protection to residents and tourists. However, due to the lack of market acceptance, he had to temporarily suspend this project.
Not giving up, Mr. Xuan continued with two new projects: Processing sludge from seafood processing plants into organic fertilizer products and using agricultural waste to make biological detergents. Both projects have produced good results, and Mr. Xuan is now distributing the products to the market.
According to Mr. Xuan, most elderly people, when they retire, often want to spend time resting and exercising, but for him, creative work is a way to train himself to live healthier and happier. Each "brainchild" created brings a sense of accomplishment; at the same time, it is a lesson to inspire his children and grandchildren.
“I think that at any age, if you work with passion, you can achieve good results. I hope that each product you make will leave behind useful life values. If you have health and experience but are not creative or hardworking, I feel very sorry,” said Mr. Xuan.
Teacher Nguyen Nhu Anh (69 years old, former lecturer at Khanh Hoa University), residing in Nha Trang ward, also maintains a regular working habit. He participates in teaching team etiquette, life skills to students and participates in the stamp club of Khanh Hoa.
Before that, when he was over 65 years old, he had a fall and had to stay home for a long time. After recovering, he became more aware of maintaining his health. Besides swimming and climbing mountains, he spent most of his time teaching. Mr. Anh said that working at this age not only helps him avoid depending on his children and grandchildren but also nurtures his passion and personal interests.
“When I get older, working at the right intensity is also a way to improve my health. Doing what I love makes me feel more optimistic and healthier. The more I work, the healthier I become, living a life that is useful to society,” Mr. Anh shared.
After the merger, Khanh Hoa province has 202,000 senior members. Most of the elderly focus on a positive lifestyle, nurturing their health, working spirit, contributing in many fields, affirming their role as a useful social force.
Passing on experience to the youth
Mr. Phan Huu Duc, Vice Chairman of the Khanh Hoa Province Elderly Association, said that with the tradition of "Old age - bright example", the elderly in the province have played a very good role in setting an example and educating the younger generation.
With accumulated experience in production and business, many people continue to work at home, open businesses, own farms... not only creating income for themselves but also creating jobs for others, contributing to the socio-economic growth of the province.
In Khanh Hoa, the elderly are also exemplary in donating land, building roads, participating in education and talent promotion campaigns, and supporting their children and grandchildren. Many people who used to be state officials now continue to promote their prestige in the community, directly going to each household to propagate the Party's policies and the State's laws. According to preliminary statistics before the merger, Ninh Thuan province had up to 70% of the elderly association officials being prestigious people and heads of residential groups.
The elderly today, whether in urban or rural areas, are cared for by the Party and the State, and are fully guaranteed policies. Associations at all levels focus on implementing movements to care for and promote the role of the elderly in their localities. For those who continue to participate in production and business, the association is also a bridge to support loans and product consumption.
In order for the activities of the Khanh Hoa Elderly Association to go into depth and be more effective, Mr. Phan Huu Duc said that it is necessary to replicate the model of intergenerational self-help clubs, because this is an effective model in promoting the role of "self-help, mutual help and community help" of the elderly. In addition, it is necessary to step up propaganda to change social awareness, not considering the elderly as just objects that need care, but as a force that can make positive contributions, especially in moral education, preserving family and clan traditions.
Along with that, building a force of association cadres who are dedicated and enthusiastic about social work, always proactive and creative in activities and especially always upholding the spirit of traditional education, building cultural life, maintaining security and order at the grassroots level and developing the economy.
Mr. Duc affirmed: With the attention of the Party, the State and the whole society, the elderly in Khanh Hoa will continue to promote their role, make positive contributions, and affirm their value as people who live useful lives for society.
