Japanese company supports Quang Tri in building an operation center to connect meteorological monitoring and forecasting data

This afternoon, May 22, a delegation of former Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam Hiroshi Fukada and Weathernews Company (Japan) visited and worked with the People's Committee of Quang Tri province on the proposal to develop meteorological information services to support agencies, businesses and communities in Quang Tri province. Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Vo Van Hung worked with the delegation.

At the meeting, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Vo Van Hung informed about the situation of meteorological forecast management, response to natural disasters and climate change in Quang Tri province in recent times. Quang Tri is a province that often faces and suffers a lot of damage due to natural disasters.

In the current context of climate change, natural disasters occurring in the province are increasingly complex, unpredictable, and irregular as before, with increasing frequency and clearly stronger intensity.

To help Quang Tri province's weather forecasting ensure high accuracy, apply the technology of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and more effectively support natural disaster prevention in the province, the People's Committee of Quang Tri province requested Weathernews Company to coordinate and support Quang Tri province in implementing planning and development plans for the network of hydrometeorological stations; cooperate in research and development of high-precision hydrometeorological forecasting and warning products to actively support natural disaster prevention activities as well as minimize risks and improve productivity for the province's socio-economic sectors.

At the same time, provide and transfer advanced and modern hydrometeorological forecasting and warning products and technologies based on the application of artificial intelligence (AI) and big data technology (Bigdata). Coordinate and support the province in building an operation center to connect meteorological observation data to state management agencies (Department of Natural Resources and Environment) to monitor, manage and research proposals, and search for resources to implement programs and projects to help improve the quality of weather forecasting and warning for Quang Tri province.

With experience in technology transfer activities as well as developing meteorological information provision services to support agencies and businesses operating in fields heavily affected by weather such as aviation, maritime, energy, etc., Weathernews Company agreed on the idea of cooperation to support Quang Tri province in building an operation center to connect meteorological monitoring and forecasting data and pilot the provision of high-precision hydrometeorological forecasting and warning products to actively support natural disaster prevention activities as well as minimize risks and improve productivity for the province's socio-economic sectors.

In the immediate future, Weathernews proposes to cooperate with relevant agencies and units of Quang Tri province to provide weather forecasting and disaster response products and services for Quang Tri province's state management agencies to use for testing and evaluation, then move towards providing services to the community via mobile phones, zalo, email... continuously updating information for customers.

In particular, Weathernews focuses on solutions using data from radar and AI technology to forecast, warn, provide meteorological information when there is heavy rain, lightning, storm warnings for businesses in industrial parks and provide information to the community on demand.
