Overcoming the difficult journey of the early days of establishment, after 10 years, Dak Nong Aluminum Company - TKV has achieved many outstanding results, affirming its pioneering position and leading enterprise in the aluminum industry of Vietnam.

Determination to overcome difficulties

The Nhan Co Alumina Production Plant Project is one of two pilot projects of the Vietnamese coal-mineral industry in the Central Highlands, aiming to turn the potential of bauxite ore into reality, creating an alumina industry and moving towards aluminum smelting right in the homeland of Dak Nong (old), now Lam Dong province.

The project was quickly implemented with the high determination of the Government and the consensus and support of the majority of the people. On October 1, 2015, Dak Nong Aluminum Company - TKV (DNA) was officially established, with the mission of managing and operating Nhan Co Aluminum Factory, exploiting and processing bauxite ore, contributing to the State budget, creating jobs and promoting socio -economic development in the locality.

In the first days of operation, DNA had to face enormous pressure on progress, technology and site clearance, and had to organize meetings in parallel with equipment installation to ensure progress... However, with the discipline and unity of the miners, with the responsibility for progress and expectations from TKV, the government and the people, the DNA team firmly overcame it. On November 10, 2016, the first ton of hydrate was born, a very important milestone, crystallizing the results of months filled with sweat, tears and bursting happiness.

Director of Dak Nong Aluminum Company - TKV Nguyen Ba Phong said that the project has a large scale and complexity, requiring close supervision of each item, ensuring technical standards, absolute safety and overall progress. Design drawings, connection points, installation and operation must be strictly controlled. Inspection and troubleshooting work takes place continuously, even in adverse weather conditions. There are times when technical staff must be on duty overnight to ensure the concrete pouring of transformer foundations and promptly handle arising technical problems.

Site clearance is a prerequisite for construction but there are many difficulties and obstacles, illegal construction on agricultural land to wait for compensation; some cases are provoked to put pressure on the government and the Company. At times, people gathered in large numbers, blocking vehicles transporting ore, causing a delay in the supply of raw materials to the Selection Plant.

The project was also significantly affected by mixed public opinion, regarding environmental, economic and social concerns, the project's development potential when it came into operation, etc. However, thanks to the close coordination between DNA and authorities at all levels, each bottleneck was gradually resolved.

During the start-up phase, the line faced a series of technical problems and operational challenges. From torn conveyor belts, clogged coal supply systems, power outages throughout the factory... to unstable alumina products, and a lack of practical operating experience among the workers. However, with concerted efforts, DNA gradually overcame the problem, increasing capacity from 60% to 100% of design in a short time.

From 2017 to now, DNA continues to face many challenges such as: unstable input ore sources due to land clearance problems. Environmental management is under great pressure as regulations are increasingly strict, etc. In addition, the issue of digital management is still limited, operational data is mainly recorded manually, making analysis and forecasting difficult. However, with the spirit of solidarity and creativity, DNA has gradually mastered technology, stabilized production and overcome harsh challenges to affirm its leading position in Vietnam's new aluminum production industry.

Asserting the leading position

In 2018, in just over 1 year of commercial operation, Nhan Co Alumina Factory reached its design capacity. By 2022, the converted Alumina production output has continuously increased to over 740 thousand tons, exceeding 113.8% of the design capacity.

All main indicators and consumption norms such as coal, lime, caustic soda, flocculants, etc. performed better than designed. The officers, employees and workers in the Company quickly took over the factory, constantly learned, researched and mastered the production line, grasped the parameters and technological indicators and completely mastered the aluminum production technology.

Over the past 10 years, the average converted aluminum consumption output reached more than 682 thousand tons/year. Of which, the annual product consumption output in the 2020-2025 period increased by more than 65 thousand tons/year compared to the 2015-2020 period; the average revenue in the 2020-2025 period reached over 3.5 trillion VND, an average increase of more than 18.06% compared to the average annual revenue in the 2015-2020 period; the average profit in 2020-2025 was 137.2 billion VND, an increase of 44 billion VND; the average state budget payment in the 2020-2025 period was 515 billion VND, an average increase of 122 billion VND compared to the average in the 2015-2020 period.

Digital transformation at DNA has achieved many positive results, contributing to improving management efficiency, optimizing production processes and building a solid technological foundation for sustainable development. In addition, DNA always cares, focuses on, and encourages research and invention of technical innovations to apply to production stages, reducing material consumption and production costs. From 2016 to present, 319 initiatives, technical innovations, and production rationalization solutions have been recognized and applied. The total value of benefits is over 15.4 billion VND.

Despite many difficulties, DNA has made continuous efforts and achieved remarkable achievements in environmental work such as: completing legal procedures in granting licenses; completing trial operations of environmental protection works; certificates of measures to prevent and respond to chemical incidents; coordinating supervision of collection and treatment of domestic, industrial and hazardous waste in accordance with regulations; fully implementing periodic monitoring work at key projects; planting 207.3 hectares of trees in the 2017-2023 period to restore the environment; successfully testing 4.9 hectares of tree varieties on alluvial soil after ore washing; partially closing the mine with an area of 130 hectares that had fully exploited reserves.

DNA always identifies people as the key factor, so it focuses on training young human resources, gradually building a team of skilled engineers and workers, capable of mastering complex technology. Corporate culture is cultivated through the spirit of solidarity, responsibility and creativity, becoming a solid foundation for long-term development.

Director of Dak Nong Aluminum Company - TKV Nguyen Ba Phong affirmed that the unit has contributed significantly to GDP growth, increased revenue sources for the budget, and contributed to creating momentum for local economic and social development towards industrialization, modernization, and economic restructuring according to the common goals of the Party and State.

Since 2015, DNA has contributed more than 4,204 billion VND to the State budget. The birth of the bauxite - aluminum industry has also created conditions to stimulate demand and develop the construction materials, chemical, construction, transportation, electrical equipment manufacturing industries, ... as well as the post-aluminum product processing industries, services, and related industries.

In just 10 years, DNA has affirmed its value with impressive numbers, creating a modern industry, creating jobs, promoting development, contributing to ensuring national energy and resource security. DNA has laid the foundation for the goal of becoming Lam Dong's national aluminum industrial center.
