Thanks to the synchronous and drastic participation of the entire political system, armed forces and people of all walks of life, Gia Lai province has completed 100% of the target of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses. More than 12,500 new roofs have sprung up, not only providing safe housing for people, but also fueling their aspirations to rise up and escape poverty sustainably.

New roof - the beginning of a new future

In Ka Te village, Van Canh commune, when he heard that we were coming, Mr. Doan Van Minh (50 years old, Ba Na ethnic group) was busy cleaning up his new, spacious house of 40 square meters. The house was built with a 60 million VND support from the State, along with the help of the local Youth Volunteer Team. Before that, Mr. Minh's family lived in a temporary, dilapidated house, and every rainy season they were worried that it would collapse.

“Before, I only worked on the farm, with an unstable income, and I didn’t dare dream of one day being able to build a house. Now that I have a solid house, I am very happy and grateful to the Party, the State and everyone who has helped me. From now on, my family can work with peace of mind, and my children will have a better place to study,” Mr. Minh emotionally shared.

Not far away, the house of Mr. Doan Van Phuong (35 years old, Ba Na ethnic group) is also solidly built.

“The old house was windy and rainy, and I couldn’t sleep well. Now that I have a new house, I feel much more secure. Working for hire all year round, I never thought I would one day live in a house as solidly built as this,” said Mr. Phuong.

In Ka Nau village, Canh Lien commune, Mr. Dinh Van Truc (53 years old) has just completed a traditional stilt house in the style of the Ba Na people but improved with a concrete foundation, sturdy pillars and a durable corrugated iron roof. The house has an area of 58 square meters, built with the State's budget support, 40 million VND from the family's savings and the support of working days from officers and soldiers of the Provincial Military Command.

“Now that I have a new house, I will focus on working and improving my life. Thank you to the Party, the State and the province for caring for people in difficult areas like us,” Mr. Truc shared.

These simple stories are vivid proof of the practical effectiveness of the program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses . Not only improving living conditions, the new shelters also become a support for people in the highlands to confidently develop their economy, take care of their children's education, preserve traditional culture and escape poverty.

Gia Lai province has completed the entire plan set for 2025, with 12,520 newly built and repaired houses, of which 2,451 are for people with meritorious services and relatives of martyrs, the rest are for poor, near-poor and newly escaped-poverty households. The total implementation cost is more than 807 billion VND, mobilized from many resources, both state budget and socialized.

This is the result of the synchronous and drastic participation of Party committees and authorities at all levels, to mass organizations, armed forces and the business community. In particular, the provincial military force contributed more than 42,600 working days, transporting thousands of tons of construction materials to remote villages; the provincial police force mobilized more than 3,000 working days, mobilized more than 1,000m³ of sand, stone and dozens of tons of cement, corrugated iron and bricks for house construction.

The Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Gia Lai province and its member organizations also joined hands to contribute more than 22,600 working days, and at the same time supported household supplies and equipment such as fans, gas stoves, blankets, mosquito nets, etc.; Many localities also coordinated with the Social Policy Bank to help people get preferential loans to build and repair houses, creating stable living conditions.

Gia Lai Provincial Party Secretary Ho Quoc Dung emphasized: “The early completion of the entire target of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses by 2025 shows the high political determination and solidarity of the entire political system. The mobilization of all resources, from the budget to socialization, from businesses to people, has brought about real and sustainable results. Especially the very drastic participation of the police and military forces.”

Not stopping at the "roof"

The valuable thing is that the program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses in Gia Lai does not stop at providing shelter to people, but also expands livelihood support, vocational training, and transfer of production techniques . This is a strategic step to reduce poverty sustainably, helping people not only "settle down" but also "find a job".

Mr. Nay Y Phuoc, a resident of Xung Beng village, Chu Prong commune, shared: “We are grateful to the Party, the State and all levels and sectors for helping us have a new house. My family will continue to strive to improve, work hard in production, and contribute to the development of our homeland.”

Gia Lai Provincial Military Forces help people build new houses.

From the first bricks, thousands of new houses have sprung up in the vast Central Highlands, not only erasing the dilapidated thatched roofs, but also contributing to changing the face of the mountainous countryside of Gia Lai. The new houses are not only solid in material but also a symbol of care and sharing, a motivation for people to rise up and take control of their lives.

In fact, after having a new house, many families have boldly changed the structure of crops and livestock, expanding the scale of production. Some households also participate in cooperative economic models, organizing production in the direction of goods. Propaganda and mobilization work to change people's thinking and working methods have also been effectively integrated into the program implementation process.

Eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses is one of the key tasks in sustainable poverty reduction and new rural development. In Gia Lai, the success of the program not only demonstrates a profound humanitarian spirit but also contributes to ensuring political security, social order and safety and building a solid base of people's hearts from the grassroots.

The program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses in Gia Lai has left a deep mark, not only on the socio-economic development map of the highlands, but also in the hearts of each beneficiary. The new roofs are not only a place to take shelter, but also a solid support for people to overcome difficulties and move towards a bright future.

From this success, it can be affirmed that: when the entire political system joins in with high political determination, people's consensus and the cooperation of the whole society, any goal, no matter how difficult, can be achieved.
