After beating Australia in a friendly match, host England is full of spirit when facing Italy at Wembley Stadium (London) in Group C of the EURO 2024 qualifiers. Italy also has a comfortable mentality when defeating Malta 4-0 3 days ago.
England coach Gareth Southgate used the quality players he had in hand, with Harry Kane playing highest, supported by the trio of Rashford, Bellingham and Phil Foden in a 4-2-3-1 formation.
The Three Lions pushed up their attack from the very first minutes. However, Italy were the team to open the scoring in their first attack in the 15th minute, when striker Gianluca Scamacca scored accurately from close range.
Conceding an early goal, England pressed forward to attack, increasing the pace of the match. In the 32nd minute, the efforts of Southgate's team were realized with a penalty goal by Harry Kane. The player who brought the penalty for England was Jude Bellingham.
The second half was full of excitement and in the 57th minute, Bellingham stole the ball and then assisted Rashford to escape. The MU player dribbled a few more times in the middle before firing a shot past goalkeeper Donnarumma, raising the score to 2-1 for the England team.
The home team continued to press the field, while Italy remained deadlocked. In the 77th minute, from a long pass in the home field, captain Kane cleverly handled Giorgio Scalvini and easily "knocked out" goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, sealing a 3-1 victory for the England team.
By beating Italy 3-1, England secured a ticket to EURO 2024 as the top team in Group C. The remaining ticket to Germany next summer will be a competition between Ukraine (13 points) and Italy (10 points). Italy has played one game less than Ukraine and the two teams will have a direct match next November.
England is also the 8th team to qualify with host Germany for EURO 2024.
Before the Three Lions, other teams including Spain, Scotland (Group A), France (Group B), Türkiye (Group D), Belgium, Austria (Group F) and Portugal (Group J) have won the right to participate in the biggest football festival in Europe next year.
The EURO 2024 qualifiers will return in November to determine the remaining 12 teams that will qualify directly for the finals, as well as the play-off matches.
EURO 2024 will have the participation of 24 teams.
