Former coach Gareth Southgate was honored for his contributions to England football. As head coach, Southgate led the "Three Lions" to the finals of Euro 2020 and 2024, and the semi-finals of the 2018 World Cup. In addition, coach Southgate's influence is not only limited to the field, he has become one of the most respected figures in football.

"It's a fantastic privilege," Southgate said after receiving the honour from Prince William.

Manager Southgate continued: "I'm very emotional, it's been a fantastic experience for all my family today. The great thing is you get to meet so many people who have done incredible things for our country, so meeting the other winners is very, very special.

The Prince is a great supporter of the England team. We have been lucky to share some great moments and some disappointments as he has spoken to the team, it was great to see Prince William again."

However, when asked by the BBC if he missed managing the national team, Southgate hesitated slightly, admitting that he felt relieved to no longer have to shoulder the responsibility of managing the England team.

"Watching the team play is a bit strange but I don't miss it," Southgate shared.

After early exits at previous World Cups, Southgate took England to the semi-finals of the 2018 tournament in Russia before being beaten by Croatia in extra time.

England eventually finished fourth in the tournament to mark their second-best World Cup finish since winning the trophy in 1966.

Manager Southgate was previously awarded an OBE for services to English football in 2019. He became the fourth England manager to be knighted, after Sir Walter Winterbottom, Sir Alf Ramsey and Sir Bobby Robson.
