PVF-CAND's U.23 Vietnam stars and HAGL draw goalless: Difficult for the mountain town team

Round 5 of LPBank V-League 2025 - 2026 saw PVF-CAND and HAGL share points 0-0 in a tight tactical match that left the U.23 Vietnam stars unable to make a difference.

"Civil war" of U.23 Vietnam between PVF-CAND and HAGL

At PVF Stadium, both teams PVF-CAND and HAGL fielded squads with very young average ages of 24.8 and 24.5 respectively, with the participation of many U.23 Vietnam players being prepared by coach Kim Sang-sik for the 33rd SEA Games and the 2026 AFC U.23 Championship.

Highlight PVF-CAND - Hoang Anh Gia Lai : Trung Kien makes a miraculous save, but his efforts to break through were unsuccessful.

Playing at home, coach Thach Bao Khanh welcomed the return of important star Mpande alongside midfielder Antonino and striker Amarildo, while HAGL only used two foreign players, central defender Jairo and midfielder Maricel.

This can be considered a match of youth, as PVF-CAND has 7 players born from 2000 onwards, including U.23 Vietnam players Hieu Minh, Thanh Nhan, Xuan Bac and Bao Long (born in 2005).

On the other side of the battle line, Coach Le Quang Trai's HAGL continues to put their faith in goalkeeper Trung Kien, young central defender Quang Kiet (2007) and names of age to play in SEA Games such as Van Trieu (2003), Minh Tam (2005).

Before HAGL used an all-domestic attack including Dinh Lam, Minh Tam and Ha, it can be seen that the home team PVF-CAND players were very confident in deploying the attacking style that helped them create a very good 2-2 draw with Da Nang Club in round 4 of LPBank V-League 2025 - 2026.

Tight draw

However, the tightness of the away team made the match on the evening of September 27th turn into a tug-of-war. Having a large number of players in the middle of the field made the space for the strikers very limited, leading to the rare number of shots on target from Cong Den and Xuan Bac.

PVF-CAND's first clear chance came in the 64th minute, when Thanh Nhan escaped down the right wing and chipped the ball just in time. Unfortunately, Samson's header beat goalkeeper Trung Kien but bounced off the crossbar.

In the second half, coach Le Quang Trai withdrew all 3 attacking players, Ryan Ha, Minh Tam and Dinh Lam, along with defender Van Trieu, and put on the field captain Thanh Son, Phuoc Bao, Duy Tam, and Gia Huy, the player once called "superman" at Ham Rong.

In the final minutes of the match, PVF-CAND created quite significant opportunities but HAGL's defense with Trung Kien and Quang Kiet played solidly, successfully neutralizing them one by one, ending the match in a 0-0 draw with only 5 shots on goal from both teams.
