Peach and kumquat trees are blooming early in the streets, welcoming the Lunar New Year 2025.
These days, at Quang An flower market (Tay Ho district, Hanoi ), spring colors have begun to appear with peach branches and kumquat pots being sold by vendors, signaling that Tet is very near.
Ms. Luu Thi Hau (a vendor at Quang An flower market) said: "For more than 22 years selling peach blossoms for Tet, every year I sell them first in the market to serve customers who want to buy early."
To get these peach branches, every year, Ms. Hau orders them early from peach growers in Phu Thuong (Tay Ho district, Hanoi), so they can strip the leaves early, so they can have peaches to sell on this occasion. "Normally, they are stripping the leaves at this time so that the peaches can bloom right on Lunar New Year, so I have to order in advance so they can process them early," Ms. Hau said.
"Yesterday I imported about 40 peach blossom branches, big and small, but in one day I sold more than 10 branches. Customers at this time are well-off people, willing to spend more money to buy and enjoy the Tet atmosphere early," said Ms. Hau.
Currently, each peach blossom branch being sold will cost from 100,000 - 500,000 VND/branch. Small peach blossom branches used to display on altars cost 120,000 - 200,000 VND/branch.
The main types of peaches sold at this time are Japanese peaches and pink peaches.
In addition, wild peach trees have also been imported by traders from Lang Son , Moc Chau, Lao Cai and sold for 200,000 - 500,000 VND/branch.
Wild pear branches in full bloom cost up to several million VND/branch.
Mini kumquat pots and bonsai kumquat trees have also been sold by traders for many days now.
Ms. Tran Thi Hong (a trader at Quang An market) said: "I have imported this kumquat bonsai directly from Hung Yen to display for sale for more than 10 days now, on average I sell about 5-6 pots per day. Thanks to that, more than 100 kumquat pots imported so far have almost sold out, with only about 30 pots left."
"This year, many kumquat growing areas of people were severely damaged, so the price of imported kumquat has also increased to about 100,000 VND/pot," said Ms. Hong.
Mini kumquat pots cost 300,000 - 500,000 VND/pot.
Many guests enjoyed bringing the taste of Tet home early.
