In early February 2025, personal identification numbers will replace tax codes.

(NLDO) - The Ministry of Finance has just issued Circular 86/2024/TT-BTC dated December 23, 2024 regulating tax registration, effective from February 6, 2025.

In the coming time, the tax industry will replace personal tax codes with identification numbers.

Accordingly, Circular 86 stipulates that the tax code for households, business households, and individuals issued by the tax authority is the personal identification number issued by the Ministry of Public Security according to the provisions of the law on identification.

This is a 12-digit number used instead of the tax code of an individual taxpayer or dependent; at the same time, the personal identification number of the representative of a household, business household, or business individual is also used instead of the tax code of that household, business household, or business individual.

In particular, the tax code issued by the tax authority to individuals, households, and business households will be implemented until June 30, 2025. From July 1, 2025, taxpayers, tax authorities, other agencies, organizations, and individuals related to tax codes will use personal identification numbers instead of tax codes.

Thus, from February 6, 2025, when Circular 86 takes effect, personal identification numbers will begin to be used to replace tax codes of individuals, households and business households. The old tax codes are not personal identification numbers and will be implemented until June 30, 2025. This means that from July 1, 2025, personal identification numbers will completely replace tax codes of individuals, households and business households.

Currently, the tax sector has been promoting solutions, converting tax codes to personal identification codes, and synchronizing tax data with the National Population Database. The General Department of Taxation has coordinated with the Ministry of Public Security to review personal identification numbers to replace personal, household, and business tax codes with personal identification numbers in the near future.
