Request to stop searching for missing victims of Phong Chau bridge collapse

The Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention, Control and Search and Rescue of Phu Tho province has just issued a document requesting the Chairman of the People's Committee of Phu Tho province to stop searching for the missing victims of Phong Chau bridge.

According to the document, immediately after the Phong Chau bridge collapse, the Provincial Military Command established two command posts at the scene to direct search and rescue... Up to now, the forces have searched for four missing people, and four people are still unaccounted for.

Along with that, the unit coordinated with the Department of Transport and other forces, Hoa Nam private enterprise to organize the dismantling and salvage of collapsed Phong Chau bridge components and submerged vehicles in the Red River.

On September 30, Brigade 126/Navy sent 40 people with vehicles and equipment to coordinate with the Provincial Military Command to search for the missing victims.

There are still 4 victims missing after the Phong Chau bridge collapse on September 9.

During the search dive process from October 1 to October 22, the range from the bridge to the downstream of the Red River was 66 shifts, 25 locations were marked, 2 bridge trusses N6 and N7 were discovered; 10 dives were conducted to search locations requested by relatives of the missing from Phong Chau bridge to Van Lang bridge.

However, due to the large amount of mud, sand, and trash in the Phong Chau bridge area, strong currents, limited visibility due to turbid river water, and a lot of silt, the search for the missing people was difficult and ineffective.

Faced with the above situation, the Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue has requested the Provincial People's Committee to consider ending the search for missing victims in the Phong Chau bridge area from October 24.

In addition, the Department of Transport is assigned to preside over the dismantling and salvaging of the remaining part of the N7 bridge and the dismantling and salvaging of the N6 bridge and the vehicles submerged in the river.... Coordinate with Brigade 249/Engineering Corps, Lam Thao and Tam Nong districts to maintain the operation of the pontoon bridge and Phong Chau ferry to ensure absolute safety and serve people's travel.
