New developments in the case of the dwarf performing at Yamal's party

Facing the risk of receiving a heavy penalty, Lamine Yamal recently received support from insiders, namely the group of dwarves he hired to attend his coming of age party.

The story began a day before, when Spanish media released photos showing a group of people with dwarfism (commonly known as dwarves) performing at Yamal's coming-of-age party, celebrating his 18th birthday.

Immediately, these images sparked a huge controversy. The Spanish Association of People with Dwarfism (ADEE) asserted that using dwarfs as entertainment tools is an insult to human dignity, reinforces social prejudices and is seriously discriminatory.

The association said it would sue Yamal, and under Spanish law, Yamal could face jail time if found guilty of insulting dwarfs.

The Spanish Ministry of Social Rights immediately transferred the case file to the public prosecutor's office responsible for the rights of persons with disabilities, requesting an investigation under Law 15/2022 on Equality of Treatment and Article 510 of the Penal Code.

If found guilty of publicly insulting people with disabilities, Yamal could be fined heavily, banned from public activities and even face up to four years in prison.

However, public opinion is more or less on Yamal's side, thinking that his inviting this group to perform was simply an agreement.

One of the short actors attending the event spoke up to defend the young star, saying the criticism was going too far and hurting the so-called “victims” in the incident.

Speaking to RAC1 and quoted by Marca , Goal and Times of India , the man said: “Nobody insulted us. We went there to work, legally, professionally and voluntarily. Why can’t we do what we love, just because our bodies are different?”

He also stressed that ADEE's criticism of the event hurt people like him, by inadvertently denying them the opportunity to work legally to earn a living.

“We are not circus monkeys. We can dance, joke, serve drinks, do magic tricks. We have the right to express our abilities like anyone else,” he explained.

The fact that these dwarves spoke up to "rescue" Yamal is very meaningful to the Barca superstar, easing the pressure that is currently weighing on him.

However, even if all the dwarves attending the party spoke in support of Yamal, the investigation would still proceed.
