In the last days of the year, in the greenhouses stretching hundreds of meters, the owner of the high-tech agricultural farm is selling truckloads of orchids of all kinds. Thousands of orchids of all kinds are grown densely with many high and low levels and are being collected by gardeners and traders across the country to distribute to the flower market for the upcoming Lunar New Year.

Taking us to visit the thousands of square meter orchid production areas, Mr. Thien introduced 10 orchid colors that are being cultivated. Each orchid house is equipped with a sprinkler irrigation system, creating a clean environment. A fan system and especially an industrial air conditioner powered by rooftop electricity are installed, helping the owner of the model to adjust the temperature appropriately, even in hot summers or cold winters. That is the prerequisite to adjust the flowering of the plants according to the time the market prefers. Here, there are orchid growing experts hired by him to take charge of the technical aspects.

In recent months, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Thien's greenhouse system has maintained about 80,000 orchid plants of all kinds, of which 40,000 small plants are incubated to overlap the batch, and another 40,000 plants are cared for to be brought to the market from now until the end of the year. Up to this point, tens of thousands of remaining orchid plants have sprouted clusters of fresh buds, waiting to bloom. Cultivation technology and care experience have shown the difference with many other models, because in each planting area, thousands of plants are almost identical in number of leaves, bud size as well as blooming time.

“After the sudden orchid fever, many people think that orchids are out of date. But in my opinion, it is still the most profitable plant in cultivation today if you know how to apply technology. This Tet, just need to calculate an average of 100,000 VND per orchid basket, the farm has a revenue of about 4 billion VND. In fact, many people still like to grow orchids, especially arranging small baskets into large pots to decorate for Tet,” Mr. Thien shared.

With a total area of ​​3.6 hectares, the model owner divided it into 2 production areas. In addition to the orchid houses near his residence, he grows cantaloupe, baby melon, baby cucumber, and tomatoes all year round in the remaining area. All crops are grown in greenhouses using modern farming methods, with registered growing area codes, meeting VietGAP standards, and provincial OCOP products. Over the years, agricultural products here have also been consumed through supermarket systems and safe food supply chains to many provinces and cities across the country.

According to the model owner's calculations, the total investment in building the infrastructure of the high-tech agricultural production zone over the past 10 years has reached nearly 20 billion VND. However, every year, the crops bring in revenue of more than 10 billion VND, deducting about 60% of the costs, for a profit of more than 4 billion VND. Each year, Mr. Thien welcomes dozens of visiting delegations and is willing to share his experience in developing modern agriculture. Up to now, he has linked and transferred farming technology to 9 other models in the province, 2 models in Nghe An province, 1 model in Nam Dinh province and 2 models in the capital Hanoi.

Not far away, the modern greenhouse production area of ​​Hien Nhuan Production and Trading Company Limited also maintains lush crops all year round. Cantaloupes, cucumbers, green beans and many other vegetable varieties have been grown organically for many years. The company has a food supply chain in Thanh Hoa City and some neighboring districts, so the agricultural products here have a sustainable output all year round.

In 2024, Nhuan Trach Clean Vegetable Cooperative in the commune was also established on the basis of gathering many modern vegetable growing models. This is a production organization owned by women, attracting many members to participate, converging into large production areas to link with output.

At the end of 2023, Dong Tien has reached the finish line of an advanced NTM commune, the criteria of production to increase income for people is increasingly focused on by the locality. In a few days, Dong Tien will be merged into Thanh Hoa city, which is a condition and opportunity for the commune to promote the advantages of the suburbs in socio-economic development, of which high-tech agriculture is considered the strongest here.
