Vietnam futsal team faces challenges at Asian tournament

The 2024 AFC Futsal Championship, taking place in Thailand from April 17 to 28, is also the qualifying round for the World Cup. In the group stage, coach Giustozzi Diego Raul's team faces a challenge when facing host Thailand, China and Myanmar. In this group, the Thai futsal team is the strongest, so they will definitely advance, so we have to compete with the Chinese and Myanmar teams to win the remaining ticket. The Vietnamese futsal team once beat the Chinese futsal team 4-1 in a friendly match in 2016, but now this opponent has made many remarkable changes with tall players, good physical strength and good technique. Therefore, coach Giustozzi Diego Raul and his team cannot be subjective. The Myanmar futsal team has repeatedly made things difficult for us, but with their current level, the goal of victory is not out of our reach.

However, the difficulties for the Vietnamese futsal team at this time are not small when some key players have left, leaving only a few veteran faces such as Chau Doan Phat, Pham Duc Hoa, Ho Van Y... The other players are quite young and lack international competition experience, so coach Giustozzi Diego Raul will need time to hone their skills, unite everyone into a unified, harmonious, and effective block.

Commenting on the group, coach Giustozzi Diego Raul emphasized: "Thailand is a strong candidate, they have home field advantage, so they are very formidable. I highly appreciate the level of the Thai futsal team. The Chinese and Myanmar teams have both made rapid progress recently, so we have to carefully observe the playing style of these teams to have the most reasonable and suitable tactics. The teams are all very strong, but we have prepared well and will handle each match in the best way. In the near future, the Vietnamese futsal team will test their mettle in an international friendly tournament with quality opponents such as the Iranian and Moroccan futsal teams. Hopefully, through these very useful matches, my students will learn many valuable lessons."

Practice diligently

If the Vietnamese futsal team wins a ticket to the 2024 World Cup, this will be the third consecutive time the Vietnamese futsal team has participated in the world's largest arena. The previous two times in 2016 and 2020, the Vietnamese futsal team both passed the group stage and reached the round of 16. "Our job in this training session is to continue what we have prepared for the past two years. Each individual player must do better so that we have a strong team, strong enough to compete with the top teams in Asia," affirmed coach Giustozzi Diego Raul.
