'Shy Stream' Just Hearing a Noise, the Flowing Water Disappears

VTC NewsVTC News28/06/2023

On November 24, 2022, a man in Tran Gia village, Quang Nguyen commune, Sichuan, China, while walking on Long Son mountain, accidentally found a strange stream. Unlike normal, this stream only needs a loud noise for the flowing water to disappear as if it knows how to "disappear". After a while, the water from the stream will flow out normally.

The stream disappears when it hears a sound.

The man had never seen such a phenomenon before and was both surprised and scared. He walked around the stream to check if there was anything unusual but found nothing. So he decided to try again to see if it was true. This time, the man shouted loudly, and sure enough, the stream water receded a while later and then flowed back out.

Then, the man went into a nearby village to ask. The villagers told him that this stream had existed for a very long time. This stream originated from the An Le River, and people often passed by here. When they first discovered the strangeness of the stream, they were also extremely surprised, but over time, the villagers got used to the phenomenon of the stream water disappearing when there was a sound. They even nicknamed it "the shy stream". Some people were curious to try the water of this stream and said that the water was very cool, clear and there were no signs of anything unusual.

Decoding the Secret of the Stream

The man recorded a video and posted it on social media, asking netizens to explain why the water in the stream could drain like that. Immediately, a debate broke out. Many rumors about this stream were raised, some people thought that this was a supernatural or divine phenomenon. Others said that something was "controlling" the stream. Soon, the "shy stream" became famous everywhere. Some geologists went to the site to check and find an explanation for this strange phenomenon.

This stream flows through a place where many carbonate rocks are formed. Carbonatite rocks are stacked on top of each other, creating pressure that causes many cracks on the surface. These cracks are like capillaries. When rain or river water flows into the ground, it will create holes and then siphon phenomenon.

Groundwater rises to the surface through cracks in the ground and forms streams. When the stream encounters external vibrations such as shouts or loud noises, it creates pressure that pushes the water back into the ground. Over time, the water rises again and flows out.

According to the locals, many new roads have been built around the stream. This change has more or less affected the sensitivity of the stream. Previously, in 2008, the Wenchuan earthquake caused the stream to disappear and then reappear.
