German police said at least four officers on duty suffered smoke inhalation and one suffered shock. Although the cause of the fire and the extent of the damage have not been announced, authorities have brought the fire under control and are currently coordinating the investigation.

Local officials had previously predicted that around half a million people would attend the carnival, which will be held on October 13 local time. The Gallimarkt, once a cattle market, is still part of the fair today, attracting visitors with around 250 stalls around the central town during each festival.
