Maintenance, repair and improvement of the life of traffic works

BAC NINH - In order to ensure the local traffic system operates safely and smoothly, serving socio-economic development and people's lives, the Department of Construction of Bac Ninh province focuses on doing a good job of maintaining and repairing provincial roads. This is a regular task, of great significance in maintaining quality, prolonging the life of works; reducing difficulties for people participating in traffic, meeting the development requirements of the province.

Ensure progress and quality

In early October, at the provincial road 296 construction site, from Km2+400 - Km9+300 passing through Hop Thinh commune, more than 100 workers of Truong Hanh Joint Stock Company and Hai Long Construction Investment Joint Stock Company were busy leveling and rolling the road surface, reinforcing the sidewalks, building bridges on the route, repairing the drainage system... The sound of bulldozers and rollers mixed with the rhythm of hoes and shovels echoed evenly, blending with the urgent working atmosphere. Along the route, many sections of the road surface were repaired to be smooth, ensuring safety for traffic.

Mr. Nguyen Van Hoan, Construction Site Manager, shared: “With favorable weather, the contractor mobilized maximum manpower and machinery to speed up the construction progress of the items. Workers not only worked on weekdays but also on holidays, sometimes even working overnight to meet the progress. The goal is to ensure quality while not disrupting traffic for the people.”

It is known that the above project started in June this year, with a total investment of nearly 106 billion VND from the provincial budget. Up to this point, the project has reached nearly 30% of the work volume. The contractor strives to complete all items by December this year, about a month ahead of schedule.

At the same time, at the construction site of the roadbed, road surface and construction on Provincial Road 295, from Km30 - Km31 passing through Ngoc Thien Commune, many trucks carrying materials were lined up; workers were busy peeling off the degraded road surface, leveling and rolling the road surface. This is an important route connecting residential areas to Hoa Phu Industrial Park. Regular maintenance of the road helps to overcome degraded points after a long period of operation, especially after heavy rains.

Mr. Nguyen Van Thang, Head of the Department of Infrastructure Management (Department of Construction) said: “Maintenance and repair work is regularly directed by the Department, with annual plans, prioritizing routes with high traffic density, connecting production areas and industrial parks. The province allocates sufficient capital, clearly assigns responsibilities to management units, and at the same time strengthens on-site inspections to ensure progress and quality.”

Not only the above two projects, a series of other projects are being accelerated such as: Repairing the foundation and road surface of provincial road 299, section Km20+870 - Km21+250 and repairing Ben Dam bridge, Tan Tien ward; repairing and handling to ensure traffic safety on provincial roads... Along with that, many projects are preparing to start construction: Repairing provincial road 281, section from Km5+500 - Km9+200 and section from Km11+300 - Km11+800, in Luong Tai commune and Thuan Thanh ward; repairing provincial road 276, section from Km0+00 - Km1+450 and Km7+300 - Km8+00, Tien Du commune; Repairing provincial road 281 from Km5+500 - Km9+200 and from Km11+300 - Km11+800 in Luong Tai commune and Thuan Thanh ward...

Innovation, strengthening management and supervision work

According to the Department of Construction, after a long period of operation, many provincial roads have begun to show local damage. Therefore, regular maintenance and repair is important, not only to help prolong the life of the project but also to ensure traffic safety and reduce major repair costs later.

This year, the Provincial People's Committee has allocated nearly 300 billion VND to maintain and repair nearly 40 provincial roads. Each route has been carefully reviewed for its current status, identifying items that need to be handled: Repairing the roadbed and surface, patching potholes, painting lines, adding traffic safety signs, building bridges on the route, clearing drainage ditches... Up to this point, 10 projects have been completed and put into use, helping people travel conveniently, typically: Repairing the roadbed, surface and works on Provincial Road 297, section from Km3 - Km8 passing through Duong Huu commune; repairing the roadbed, surface and works on Provincial Road 295, section from Km14 - Km17, Lang Giang commune; repairing the roadbed, surface and works on Provincial Road 242 passing through Dong Ky and Bo Ha communes...

To ensure the quality of construction works, before starting construction, the Department of Construction fully implements basic construction procedures according to regulations for each project, especially applying the form of public bidding, selecting reputable and capable contractors. The consistent motto implemented by the Department is not to maintain roads in a piecemeal manner, fixing where broken, but to carry out each section to handle the root cause, ensuring the life of the project to be used for 5 years or more, equivalent to a new construction.

The representative of the Department of Construction said that after the groundbreaking ceremony, the Department assigned staff to supervise and urge contractors to concentrate resources, arrange vehicles, human resources, work overtime, and make efforts to bring the projects to the finish line on schedule. During the construction process, the Department's leaders regularly monitored the situation and promptly resolved difficulties and obstacles for contractors. For projects at risk of being behind schedule, the Department required contractors to mobilize human resources and equipment to speed up and closely follow the plan as committed in the contract.

At the same time, the unit has increased the application of technology in construction management and supervision; applied a system to record the current status of the road surface by images and management software to detect early deterioration locations for timely handling; encouraged contractors to boldly innovate equipment and use durable, environmentally friendly materials to improve long-term maintenance efficiency.

Thanks to the close direction of the Department of Construction and the proactive spirit of construction units, road maintenance and repair work in the province has gradually become routine. The maintenance volume of key routes has been completed by 60-70%, many road sections have been significantly improved, ensuring safety for people and vehicles.
