At the Etihad Stadium, the German visitors Leipzig stunned Man City by taking a two-goal lead in the first half. Striker Lois Openda successfully took advantage of both quick counter-attacks and scored against goalkeeper Ederson.
However, Erling Haaland opened a spectacular comeback for Man City in the second half with a goal in the 54th minute of the match.
Then, Phil Foden and Alvarez scored in the 70th and 87th minutes respectively to help the Etihad home team come from behind to beat Leipzig 3-2, solidifying their top spot in Group G with 5 wins after 5 matches.
Erling Haaland's 54th-minute goal against Leipzig also set two records. The Norwegian striker became the fastest player to reach 40 Champions League goals in just 35 games, breaking Ruud van Nistelrooy's record in less than 10 games.
In addition, Haaland also became the youngest player to reach 40 goals in the Champions League at just 23 years and 130 days. Haaland broke the previous record set by Kylian Mbappe in 2022.
It was also Haaland's 12th goal in eight appearances against Leipzig, the most he has scored against a team.
Erling Haaland is having a record-breaking week. Last weekend, Haaland became the fastest player to reach 50 Premier League goals when he scored against Liverpool. The superstar achieved this feat in 48 games, also breaking the previous record of 65 games set by Andy Cole.
After 20 matches in all competitions, Haaland has scored 19 goals and contributed 4 assists. He has 14 goals in the Premier League and 5 goals in the Champions League.
Currently, the Norwegian striker is leading the scoring list in these two tournaments at the same time.
