Nearly 700 Hanoi students dropped out of the 10th grade exam

VnExpressVnExpress09/06/2023

689 candidates were absent from the public 10th grade entrance exam procedure on the morning of June 9, according to the Hanoi Department of Education and Training.

The Department of Education and Training believes that the students may have been accepted into specialized universities or vocational schools. However, the Department said that if they show up tomorrow morning, they will still be assisted in completing the paperwork to be in time for the Literature exam, which begins at 8am.

In previous years, Hanoi often recorded about 1,000 students dropping out of the 10th grade exam, even though they had previously registered.

In addition to the number of candidates who dropped out of the exam, the Department of Statistics had 9 candidates taking the exam in a private room due to right hand injuries and needing help with the exam.

This year, Hanoi has more than 104,000 students taking the public 10th grade entrance exam. Of these, 11,000 candidates registered for specialized school entrance exams. The city arranged more than 200 exam sites and about 21,000 officials, teachers, and employees to participate in invigilation and grading.

Hanoi's electricity sector pledged not to cut off power, but to be proactive, all exam sites were required to prepare backup generators.

Tomorrow, students will take the Literature exam, and in the afternoon, they will take the Foreign Language exam. On the morning of June 11, they will take the Math exam, which is also the last subject. Literature and Math will take 120 minutes, Foreign Language will take 60 minutes. To be considered for admission, candidates must complete all exams, not violate the regulations, and not receive a score of 0 in any exam. The admission score for non-specialized high schools is the sum of the Literature and Math scores multiplied by two, plus the Foreign Language score and priority.

Students who register for specialized schools will take an additional specialized subject test on June 12. The admission score is the sum of the three exam scores of Math, Literature, Foreign Language and the specialized subject score multiplied by a factor of two.

Hanoi's public 10th grade benchmark scores were announced on July 8-9, with candidates confirming their enrollment online or in person. From July 18, schools that do not meet their enrollment quotas will begin additional enrollment.
